In my last post: Living Low Carb: Keeping It Keto On The Go I mentioned I was heading out for another quick road trip…
I’ll give you a photo tour of my entire low carb day on the road, plus something delicious I made at home the next day!
But the main thing I want to share with you today is about making smart low carb restaurant choices and how to log those (correctly) in MyFitnessPal.
It’s ideal if you know where you’ll be going out to eat, because you can look up the menu & nutrition facts online beforehand and decide what you’re going to have.
I find this exceptionally helpful because it keeps me from browsing the menu and getting tempted by high carb foods. 😛
But when you’re not sure where you’re going, or you find yourself somewhere and you’re unsure what to choose, you can always look up the nutrition facts on your phone.
That’s ideal, because you never know the true carb count of restaurant foods without looking them up. Some steaks for example are way higher carb than you would guess (um: ZERO, it’s steak!), because they’re marinated in something full of sugar. 😯
Photo Tour: My Low Carb Road Trip
I had a quick and light breakfast before I headed out. I got some of the Omega Buns to review, so I toasted one of those and spread Blueberry Cinnamon Bun Almond Butter on it. I love that stuff! 😍
The Omega Buns are pretty good, IF you like flax based foods. I personally don’t. Flax has a unique texture or feel that I don’t really like.
But they are better than most flax products, and even better toasted. And of course they’re a great low carb bread alternative if you’re dairy free or nut free. 😉
I brought a few things with me on the trip too, just in case… because I knew lunch was really going to be closer to dinnertime, and I figured I might make a stop in the city on the way back too.
I brought Super Coffee (so I wouldn’t have to stop for one!) and FBOMB fat bombs:
There are 4 flavors of Super Coffee and I think they’re switching around the ingredients, so stay tuned for all the details. 😉
Anyway, I was headed to visit my son and take him out to dinner for his birthday. He’s my firstborn and just turned 27, so it was a special day for me too: my Anniversary of becoming a mother. ❤
I’m still a size 8. It’s SO nice to be able to wear fitted dresses and actually button a sweater! I used to wear loose fitting clothes, and use sweaters to cover up my fat rolls. 😉
I wasn’t sure where he’d want to go eat, but I knew he’d want a big steak. 🙂
We ended up going to O’Charley’s so I looked up their nutrition facts on my mobile.
Any restaurant or fast food chain publishes their nutrition facts & macros online now, making it super easy to check things out on the go!
I got the 8oz prime rib with grilled asparagus and steamed broccoli:
O’Charley’s has prime rib all day every day now, not just on weekends!
It happened to be “Free Pie Wednesday” btw, and I admit… I was tempted. 😛
Since we were going to get two free slices of pie anyway, I suggested he get them both to go – and enjoy them with his girlfriend later. And I had an FBOMB Salted Chocolate Macadamia nut butter packet. 🙂
I think that’s missing from my food diary below. Oops!
On my way back to the city I tried the Super Coffee. It was pretty good, and definitely a pick-me-up!
It was especially nice to have a keto coffee ready to drink, vs having to stop and special order one or try to fix one on the road. 😉
You’ll notice HWC (heavy whipping cream) in my food diary too. That’s because I stopped at a Starbucks in the city to do a little work later that night, and had HWC in my coffee there.

Logging Foods in MyFitnessPal
Whether you type in a food or scan a barcode with your mobile, you MUST double check that entry against your label or the nutrition facts sheet from a restaurant.
Most foods are entered by other people, and I find the majority of them are incorrect. Just make sure you double check it!
If a food doesn’t have a label, like fresh produce for example, you can google it – like this: strawberries nutrition facts.
Here’s the O’Charley’s Nutrition Facts for example. I found that easily by Googling exactly that: ocharleys nutrition facts. 😉
I got my October Keto Krate earlier this week, and I can’t wait to get into it and see what we got this month! Stay tuned, I’ll share what’s inside the box – plus some other low carb foods I’ve been testing/trying.
Speaking of, I made an amazing Keto Waffle Grilled Cheese this week. 🙂
I used the Know Foods Waffles (use coupon code LYNN for 15% off!) and stuffed them with cheese and pepperoni, then grilled it in butter. 🙂❤
That was delicious!!
I’ve been home the rest of the week catching up on work and working through deadlines, but the weather took a COLD turn and I’m already really missing summer – and summer waterfall hikes. *sigh*
I’m thinking a trip to the beach will be in order soon. 😉
