I found Low Carb Tortillas at the grocery store last week, and I’ve really been enjoying them!
I thought I was going to have to order them online, but I got lucky finding them local.
I’ve had them three times in the last 24 hours, so I thought I’d share some of the fun ways we’re eating them.
And even my teen daughter likes the Low Carb Tortillas – and she’s used to eating regular tortillas!
Me, not so much, so I wouldn’t have noticed if there was a big difference. But they’re definitely good!
The first thing I tried was a basic fajita-style wrap. I used the steak & chicken fajita meat that I always buy. I put it in a skillet on high with a few dashes of soy sauce. I warmed the Low Carb Tortillas slightly, then added shredded cheese & sour cream:
This morning I decided to try something a little different. I was in a hurry to get out the door to my Reflexology appointment (which I love!!) and decided to make some PB&J roll-ups real quick.
I used Polaner Sugar Free Seedless Blackberry Preserves and Smucker’s Organic Peanut Butter.
I warmed the Low Carb Tortilla just a bit, spread the peanut butter & jelly on – one on each side – then rolled it up and cut it in half.
It was a quick snack, but perfect for something to grab on the go.
Yum!
Looks messy, tasted great! 🙂
The Polaner Sugar Free jellies/preserves are only 2 net carbs per tablespoon, by the way.
It’s hard to find low carb sugar free jelly but Polaner is a great pick if you can find it in your local grocery store. It’ll be with the rest of the peanut butter & jelly.
Then for lunch today I got the bright idea to make a grilled cheese using the Low Carb Tortillas. Actually, it would be considered a quesadilla – lol. I made it just like a grilled cheese though: I put some butter in a hot skillet, put the first tortilla in, topped it with shredded cheese, added another tortilla on top, then flipped it and browned both sides:
Obviously you could add peppers & onions, meat, and all sorts of things. I was going for a simple crispy cheesy snack today, so it was perfect!
These low carb tortillas are only 1 carb each, by the way. Sweet! I bet they will make it much easier to hold a hamburger (complete with lettuce, mayo & pickles) than the way I’ve been trying to eat them (haha). If you use the lettuce to pick it up, it can get slick and end making a real mess. 😛
Low Carb Tortillas are my new favorite addition to the menu!
Update: I’ve had a hard time finding these same tortillas at my local stores again. The ones they are stocking now are a higher carb count.
I am now ordering these Low Carb Tortillas from Netrition. Great low flat-rate shipping no matter how many products you order!

So glad you mentioned these. The ones in my grocery store are La Tortilla Factory low carb whole wheat tortillas (3 net carbs) and I was getting sort of stumped as to what to do with them, beyond sticking turkey & cheese into them as roll-ups. After reading about your recipes I took a closer look at the tortillas’ packaging and saw they have a recipe site, too. I found many low-carb and calorie-conscious recipes there: La Tortilla low-carb recipes

Nice – thanks for sharing the link! π I am really enjoying mine. Today will probably stuff one with caesar salad & grilled chicken. Yum!

I use low carb tortillas all the time! Love them and honestly, I can’t tell the difference.

Same here. I can’t say I ate tortillas that much before, outside of the occasional quesadilla or soft taco, but I can’t tell any real difference either. Loving this new addition to my menu! π

I eat tuna sandwiches on tortillas instead of bread more often than not.
In fact, since I love Mexican food, I love most anything in a “Wrap”. Even the McDonalds Big Mac, I prefer in a wrap instead of the regular hamburger bread.
Lynn Terry says
Speaking of, have you tried McDonald’s burger wraps? I like the Angus Bacon & Cheese wrap. Its NOT a low carb tortilla though so they are more than 20 carbs (because of the tortilla alone)…
L.M. says
Only the Big Mac Wrap. It’s good, so I imagine the Angus one is good as well. You are correct. They are not low carb. The way around that I suppose is to get a burger to go and then put it on your own Low Carb Tortilla.
Lynn Terry says
I agree π Definitely better than a bun though in any case!

Hi Lynn,
Just wanted to make sure the net carbs in these tortillas. The Beuna Vida ones have 4 Net carbs/tortilla, not 1. I found them at Wal-Mart.
This is a really great site. I’ve been trying to loose weight on low carb but its not coming off as easy as it did when I did it 6 years ago. I dont know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve barely lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks even though I’ve been good about following it. I admit I’m not eating enough veggies. Your blog is helping to motivate me and keep at it. So thanks for that.

Hey Bash,
I know – I only found those once then they were the higher carb count after. I’ve been getting the low carb tortillas from Netrition since – they are 3 net carbs.
Congrats on the 6 pounds! I understand your frustration though. I’m losing a lot slower now that I’m so close to ideal weight (within 10-20 lbs).
Are you staying below 20 net carbs a day, or what is your goal? I’ve found sticking with mostly meat & eggs seems to help…
