Here’s my Low Carb Food Journal for Tuesday and Wednesday, which were Day 3 & 4 of my Zero Carb Challenge.
Coffee continues to be challenging, as I drink it all day. Even with only HWC (heavy whipping cream) in my coffee, it adds up as 3 carbs for 6 cups of coffee.
See: How to correctly track HWC in MFP. HWC (Heavy Whipping Cream) is .4 carbs per TBSP, or 7 carbs per cup.
Even if your label says “0” carbs, it’s only because they’re allowed to label anything as “zero” carbs… as long as it’s less than one carb per serving. But if you use more than one TBSP (a serving), or you use it in recipes, you really must use the accurate carb count.
Tuesday’s Low Carb Meals & Macros
For breakfast I finished off the sausage patties that were cooked up (there were two left). For lunch I had a cup of chicken broth and 3 boiled eggs (which I also had on hand by cooking up in advance). Just eggs, salted:
I sliced those boiled eggs with the awesome new slicer I mentioned in a my video. 🙂
I love it!!
For dinner I ordered take-out from a new little local spot that’s really great. I got a big fat 12oz Ribeye & 10 Jumbo Shrimp (no sides). They’re super nice to accommodate my quirky orders -lol.
If you’re local (Middle Tennessee), you can join me for dinner there on Tuesday September 1st! It’s located in McMinnville, TN. See that link to RSVP for the low carb dinner, so I can get an accurate head count. 🙂
I ate the 10 shrimp, and saved the steak for later.
I was satisfied all day, but then I stayed up too late (1am) so I did go to bed hungry. But honestly, I was too tired to care. 😛 I thought about eating my steak, but I was too tired to chew. LOL. It made for a nice breakfast the next morning, though!

Wednesday’s Low Carb Meals & Macros
Yesterday I had half the carbs (3 instead of 6). That’s because I drank a little less coffee, as I was out for the evening. I skipped breakfast and had an early lunch. The 12oz ribeye steak from above that I had leftover. 🙂 Yum! Later in the day I had HALF an Arby’s Roast Beef Max sandwich (roast beef only, no bun).
For dinner we went out to a local pub called Fast Jack’s. I ordered my usual there: a hamburger steak with double green beans. I saved the green beans and put those in the freezer for next week when I’m off the “zero carb challenge”. 🙂
It was pretty plain, so I salted it and dipped it in Mayo. Lots of mayo, lol.
I hadn’t had a chance to get a workout in before I left for dinner, so I did 30 reps on my Ab Carver Pro before I walked out the door. I love that it’s so quick & easy!
You’ll notice the ONE tablespoon of sugar free creamer in that diary. It’s because I wasn’t at home. That’s one of the reasons I switched to this powdered “chemical creamer”. It’s so darn convenient when you’re on the road, or anywhere “HWC” isn’t easily available. I’ll have to figure out how to deal with that while traveling…

So I was .2 pounds lighter (less than a quarter of a pound) yesterday. That’s what I weighed again this morning too. I told you I’m a slow loser! 😛
I’m in this for the long haul though – I’m a low carb lifer – and I expect the scales will do a little dancing ‘n moving as the week plays out…
Doing “zero carb” is quite a challenge. Carbs are everywhere!!!! 😯 LOL. Dang!
At least I ate more yesterday. Today I’ve hardly eaten at all so far, and spent quite a bit of time in bed. I have a seriously sick stomach (again) after a relentless headache all day yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s a stomach flu, food poisoning, stress, or WHAT.
I have a feeling this is playing a part in my scales being stubborn, so I’m just going to let that work itself out and continue on…
Best,

Could you possibly be having the low carb flue? Are you taking any potassium and magnesium? I know you have been low carb for awhile but now you are going super low carb. I am not sure how low carb you were before. I do not get a lot of time to read your posts. Lack of any of those ,and low carb wastes potassium like crazy can give you a sick feeling. Headache. Not usually tummy ache but you are doing a change in your WOE.
When I travel to long doctor days for hubby I carry cream in those plastic containers some restaurants put mayo or salad dressing in. They are 2 OZ . I have a well insulated lunch pack and I keep my ice bag ready to go all the time. Never know when I will be heading off to the ER. I keep them in a sandwich sized zip lock in case they drip the bag contains it. And yes they tend to drip.
Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Chris
Thank you, Chris. I was thinking of ways to easily travel with HWC – but that could prove challenging. Especially on long flight days – like Monday when I’m headed to Vancouver. And when it gets shaken up (HWC) it turns gloppy, which is GROSS. π lol
It can’t be low carb flu. I did 3IMAX the week before this, and DID experience keto flu that week. I actually got sick on Saturday – the day before I started my “zero carb week”. That was the day I had NO solid food at all:
http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/7488/day-8-low-carb-diary/
The next day, Sunday, is when I decided to start my Zero Carb challenge a day early. It seemed like a good buffer – so I went ahead and started.
Unfortunately, I’ve felt ill off and on all week. I had one day where I ate over 2,000 calories – but otherwise I’ve had a hard time with appetite and also with tummy issues.
I’m off to post yesterday’s food diary. It’s a sad one. lol…
Ahh – one more point: I get plenty of magnesium & potassium in my diet. Spinach, salmon, and avocado are all three great low carb sources for both. And you’d be shocked how much potassium is in coffee!!! I was π hahaha…
Well the only other thing I can think of easy to carry if you can keep it cold is butter. But it has to be whipped into the coffee. IF you can find a tiny battery stick blender you could just ask for butter where you are eating. I know it sounds yucky but when I have run out of cream at home , we are 40 miles round trip to the grocery, I use butter whipped into coffee and can not tell the difference..
That requires a lot more packing & hassle (and mess!) than the powdered container with a measuring spoon in it. π I’ll have to figure something out. Or quit coffee. Which I have seriously considered this week. π
I have seen flavored coffee in small packets at grocery. Supposed to be one pots worth but we drink our coffee pretty mild. But then you have to just have it at your motel room and not while eating out. I gave up coffee the first time I did Atkins and it did not seem to make any difference in my weight loss. Not giving it up again. But when hubby was doing chemo coffee turned his stomach, even for me to perk it, so I went to tea for us and there are so many flavors available and tea bags would be easy to pack. And ordering cup of hot water.
I must admit I did some times perk my coffee out on the front porch and enjoyed it out there in the good weather. My name is Chris and I am a coffee addict.
I’ll figure something out. I was losing just fine using the sugar free powdered creamer that’s so convenient. And it was… convenient. π Rah. I’ll give it all some thought. Perhaps cutting back and just enjoying coffee in moderation would be a smart choice. π lol
