Yesterday Ricky and I went out for a late lunch. We were both craving seafood so we decided on Red Lobster – which is great for seafood AND low carb meals. 🙂
We were discussing this on Facebook and several people mentioned the “cheddar bay biscuits” are hard to resist.
My advice: Ask your server NOT to bring bread to the table. There’s no sense letting it go to waste anyway!
OR to your waist. 😛
If you do love biscuits, check out my low carb biscuit recipe.
Speaking of eating out, which you know I love to do (lol) – did you know you can save tons of money with Printable Restaurant Gift Certificates? You can print $25 certificates for only $10, and they have a huge variety of restaurants to choose from. I’ve even found Red Lobster there before! Click here to do a search in your area and see what you find. It’s great savings!
Back to my Red Lobster lunch yesterday, which was AMAZING, I’ll give you a quick photo tour of my meal. They have tons of low carb meals on the menu. Normally I would look up the nutrition facts and plan out my meal before I ever go, but in a pinch I look up carb counts on my mobile – which is what I did yesterday.

I decided to have the “pick two” create-your-own meal, which came with a side salad and a side item. I ordered my salad with ranch, and “no croutons please”:
I decided on the Grilled Salmon and Shrimp Scampi with steamed broccoli:
The shrimp scampi is 1 carb, the salmon is zero (0) carbs, the broccoli is 7 carbs (total, they don’t have fiber listed on the nutrition facts so you can get the “net carb” count). It was beautiful. 🙂
Of course, it was way too much food for one sitting. I had a large glass (and a half) of ice water with my meal too. When you’re eating a super low carb ketogenic diet, you have MUCH less of an appetite. 😛 So I ended up with a nice take-out box for the leftovers to enjoy later:
I really only ate the side salad, the shrimp scampi, half the steamed broccoli – and my water. Oh, and one mussel that Ricky INSISTED I try:
It was okay. I like raw oysters, all kinds of sushi, etc – but I probably wouldn’t order Mussels off the menu myself. But it was fun to try one at least. 🙂
There are tons of low carb meals to enjoy at Red Lobster, but you really want to look up the nutrition facts before you go – or at least before you order.
Their Cheddar Bay Biscuits are 16 carbs EACH, by the way. Totally not worth it. Like I said, let your server know right away that you don’t need any bread (“please”).
It’ll just go to waste, or to YOUR waist – so you might as well just leave it off the table! 🙂
On the topic of splurges though, I did try the Lobster Bisque Soup. I looked it up and it’s 15 (total) carbs per cup. I decided to share it with Ricky since I was having such a low carb meal, and had sausage & eggs for breakfast (and just sausage for dinner later that night). So that was 7 or 8 carbs for half a cup of soup.
Let me just say… you could have called that “dessert”. It tasted SO sweet to me. I joked you could add whipped cream on the top and call it “pie”. 😛
My tastebuds can pick out sugar quicker than my dane can sniff out a cat. That’s one of the benefits of ketosis. Or drawbacks, if you wanted to enjoy that Bisque, lol. Blech! It was good, just WAY too sweet for a sugar-free diet, and a total waste of carbs (in MY book).
All in all it was a BEAUTIFUL meal, and we had a really great time. From the ranch all over my face, to me making finger food out of everything on my plate, and all the fun laughs in between… it was a super fun lunch!!
What about you – what are your favorite low carb meals at Red Lobster?
Vicki says
The Red Lobster is my husband’s favorite place to eat! He loves seafood but doesn’t always do low carb. π
One of my favorite low carb meals at Red Lobster is also the salmon, broccoli and salad. I splurge and have blue cheese dressing.. although I do eat much less of it by asking for it ‘on the side’. Your idea of the biscuits not making it to the table is a good one, because once they are there I admit I have to try a few bites!!

The salmon is really great! And zero carbs. π Blue Cheese dressing is a good healthy fat, and low carb too! And asking for the dressing on the side is SMART, because I felt like the “drowned” my salad, lol.

I have so much trouble with the menu because I don’t like seafood LOL but all my family does so I’ll go for them.. my favorite is the pasta it’s my weakness what should I eat on my keto diet??
Lynn Terry says
Hi Latisha π
You want to avoid pasta, rice, potatoes etc on a ketogenic low carb diet. Red Lobster has a lot of great menu items through. They have a good steak for example! You might find a grilled chicken salad too.
I always look up the menu online before I go and decide what I want to order. If you get a pasta dish, like chicken alfredo – get it over steamed broccoli instead of pasta. π
