When I came across the Everything Bagel from The Great Low Carb Bread Company, I decided to give them a try. I wanted to test the quality, how fast they would ship and how fresh they would be when they arrived, and most importantly – whether they would stall my weight loss on a low carb diet. (They did NOT stall me! Yay!)
These bagels are only 2 Net Carbs each.
I’ve been through my share of low carb breads over the years. Julian Bakery, for example, that was definitely a “one and done” experience. Ugh! 😛
I had all but given up on any kind of low carb bread company, and have been making my own low carb breads & hearty low carb biscuits for years now.
There were quite a few people discussing these bagels from The Great Low Carb Bread Company in my Low Carb Challenge group, so I decided to “take one for the team” (assuming they would stall me, AND paying the very high shipping cost) and try them out. I’ve already mentioned they didn’t stall me – and I ate all 6 in six days. 😀
As for the high shipping, that was because I ordered the bagels from Amazon. I’ve since found MUCH cheaper shipping 😉 so keep reading…
Not only can you get them cheaper at Netrition, but they have tons of flavors to choose from! I love the Everything Bagel, but I want to try the Cinnamon Bagel. 😀
The great thing about Netrition is that no matter how much you order, there is only one low flat rate shipping fee ($4.95). At Amazon, the current shipping price is $9.24 per package (more than the bagels themselves!).
You definitely save a lot when you order them from Netrition, especially if you get several flavors or stock up & freeze them. Or if you order other products while you’re there, like:
– Almond Meal
– Low Carb Wraps
– Coconut Oil
– Quest Bars (etc)
Speaking of, when I ordered the bagels from Amazon… they came fresh, shipped super fast, and were shipped as “perishable” – which explains the higher shipping rate.
Netrition freezes them, and ships them frozen. I just ordered some so I’ll be interested to see if they taste as fresh as those from Amazon.
The bag DOES say “keep frozen”. I kept mine out on the counter though, and they stayed fresh the whole week. I just kept the bag sealed. So I don’t plan on freezing mine once they arrive. I plan on EATING them. 😉
Low Carb Breads are not for everyone. They have a great texture, they taste fabulous, and they did not stall my weight loss – but they may not be for you if you have certain sensitivities or health issues. And of course you’ll have to do a “clean test” to make sure they don’t stall your weight loss (clean meaning: don’t change anything else, and keep your macros consistent otherwise).
Here’s the label so you can see the ingredients:
I LOVE them. They didn’t kick me out of ketosis, or slow down my weight loss at all. I read similar reviews from others as well. See the Reviews on Amazon to get a feel for what other people thought. But then order them from Netrition instead. 😉
They’re only 2 net carbs each, too!
They are absolutely delicious lathered in real butter, or smeared with Laughing Cow Creamy Swiss Wedges, or even as a sandwich! I’m just glad I found a cheaper way to order them, especially since I already order so much from Netrition anyway.
No more ridiculous shipping rates!!
ENJOY! 😀
Best,
Lynn Terry, aka @LowCarbTraveler
p.s. Have you tried these, or do you plan to? I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts!
p.p.s. I *did* pay $3.99 extra for thermal packaging / cold packs, but I did *not* pay for faster shipping – as Netrition orders always arrive super fast anyway. 😉 In the future I may skip the thermal packaging too, since I got them shipped fresh last time as I mentioned. I aim to test it both ways, but wanted to try them “frozen” first.
I get their bread frequently. I don’t eat much bread myself, but my husband loves toast in the am. Bread is only 1 net cb per slice.we have tried rye, pumpernickel, plain, sourdough, and sesame. All are delicious! I don’t get the thermal wrap either. The bread keeps in the refrigerator for several weeks.
That’s great to hear, Joyce! I didn’t even refrigerate my first two orders of bagels, and they were shipped fresh (not frozen) – and lasted beautifully. I may try the sourdough bread they offer. Glad to hear it’s good. 😉 *cheers*
I plan to order some this week with my Netrition order. I was waiting till the end of your testing to see how your fared. =)
The low carb tortillas don’t cause me issues so hopefully these won’t either. It will be nice to add an occasional change to my simple meals… Even I can toast!
Thanks Lynn!
LOL @ “even I can toast!” Debi – haha. 😀 You and are a lot alike when it comes to the kitchen. 😉 I enjoy the Mama Lupe’s low carb wraps now and then, but for the carb count… the bagels are definitely lower, and more filling. I really enjoyed them as a sandwich – especially for a “no mess” meal to eat on the go.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts! My cinnamon bagels should arrive anytime now. 😀
OMG!! there is a funny funny video you have to look up that shows how someone bought Julian bakery bread and ended up using it as a sponge!! and they actually were wringing it out and resuming it…LOL
Ha! I’ve seen that Nance – that one really made me laugh. 😛 Seriously creative use of low carb bread, lol…
Just wanted you to know that I ordered some low carb bagels in 3 different flavors. I didn/t know about the thermal pack. So I ordered it too. In the end with shipping it was about the same as Amazon? However, the next time, if there is one, I’ll not go for the thermal pkg. like others have said. I hope they’re good cause I spent $$$ for bagels?
Thank you for keeping us updated on low carb products!
JoAnn
Let me know your thoughts on the items you chose, JoAnn. 😀 I am going to skip the thermal pack next time too. Netrition ships SO fast! And of course if you’re ordering some of your other usual items at the same time… it’s so worth 4.95 to get it all delivered right to your doorstep. 😉
Hi all. I’ve been dying for a bagel since low-carbing for over 3 months now. I ordered 3 bags from netrition.com but my shipping cost was 5.99 (?)
Interesting Lauri – my shipping is always 4.99. I’m in the US btw (TN). I assume you are as well. Did you request expedited shipping or thermal packaging?
I just ordered the bagels (4 flavors), and yes shipping has gone up to $5.99. Previously when I ordered it was $4.95. After reading some of the comments I didn’t get the Thermal Packaging, hopefully they are fine when I get them. Has anyone tried the pretzels, I ordered each of those flavors also, thanks.
I haven’t tried the pretzels, Connie. Let me know how your order arrives, and how you like them!
I am in the unpacking stage of my latest move!!!! And the first think I did was order my month’s worth of bread/bagels from Netrition… I still have a couple of bagels and enough bread for a couple of sandwiches or snack peanut butter toast from my last order… I don’t intentionally ration the order, but I have discovered that 12 bagels (pumpernickel and Everything are my faves) and two loaves of bread *always rye and usually the regular or sourdough) have become my regular order… Along with that, I go through the specials and clearance and usually pick out one or two items… Did try the pretzels, but expected, and missed the coarse salt and shiny crust – – tasted good but outside of the shape, the pretzelness was missing… Good with crab dip, though… I have tried just about every way of preparing my bagels – – and have ended up with my best ‘bagel experience;; being to slice it in half with a plastic :silverware’ knife – – no slice hand from slippage and it works great…. I then put the halves back together and nuke it for around 15 seconds – I set it for 15, but get impatient and usually take it out at 12 – – – Oh, I store my bagels in the fridge and have had them keep for almost 2 weeks – when I get down to one or two in the sack I freeze them – – and defrosting heats them through enough… I found that toasting them took away moisture and the bagel feel that I like in a real bagel… Heck as far as I am concerned, these are ‘real’….. When I could get garden tomatoes, I would make a ham or turkey or both, cheese, thin sliced tomatoes and iceberg lettuce on the bagel with mayo, and even my picky grandson wanted a bite…. Yummy…..
I ordered Bread & bagels from Netrition they should arrive tomorrow, I’m excited to try them.
What did you think of them, Tonya – and which did you get? 🙂
yes I like the bagels but don’t like the price of shipping.
Hi Norma,
I usually order quite a few things at once, so the flat rate shipping is very nice on a larger order. 🙂 I get my Almond Meal and other things there. I don’t pay extra for the faster shipping or thermal packaging, by the way.
I love the bagels, But the hot dog buns and hamburger buns were not good at all to me. I was only able to eat them toasted. They are real chewy.
I didn’t care for them either, Ethel – but I’m so used to eating hot dogs and hamburgers without bread now too. 😉 The bagels are GREAT, and I love the Everything Bread – mostly for grilled cheese sandwiches!
I just looked on the netrition website and i don’t think they offer these bagels anymore???!!!
The bagels are still available. 🙂 They can be found here: http://www.netrition.com/cgi/goto.cgi?gid=8260&aid=3558 Enjoy!
How many bagels come in a bag I couldn’t find it on the webpage.
6 bagels – and they’re delicious!! 🙂
We just tried the everything bagels and the sesame seed bagels from Netrition. They are very good. I did not pay for the perishable packaging as the last time I did, they didn’t add it in the package. I called and they reimbursed me that cost I paid for it. Great company to work with. We were a little reluctant to try the bagels as some low carb things have a funny taste but these didn’t. Will order again.
The Julian Bakery bread taste like ass (not that I eat ass :)…..I look forward to trying these bagels!
I agree Yoko – lol. I was really impressed with these bagels and breads after trying several others. You’ll definitely enjoy them! 🙂
I’ve been eating the bread for over a year and husband likes the bagels. We keep them in the freezer and take them out one loaf at a time. It is difficult to order at this time of year in Hotlanta . I do get the perishable packing.
I order the plain bread all the time for sandwiches and just ordered the bagels to try. I had been ordering them straight from the company’s website and laying a fortune for shipping. Glad to hear about the $4.95 shipping elsewhere! BTW, the muffins are tiny and not very good. But the bread and pizza crust are wonderful!!
Netrition is such a GREAT resource. 🙂 Thank you for the heads-up on the muffins and pizza crust!!
I love love love the Everything bagels and bread. It is a Godsend gor us low carbers. Yummy yummy and it does not stall weight loss
I am ordering this week from Netrition. I love Netritrition. Great customer service and speedy delivery. 🙂
