I absolutely love to travel…
The funny thing is, I’m not much into sight-seeing. It’s the actual trip that I love, whether it’s a road trip or a flight to the other side of the world. I’m probably one of the very few people you’ll ever meet that LOVES a 14 hour flight – LOL.
I also love hotels, with big cushy beds and room service and all the amenities!
And the hotel I’m in this weekend is absolutely fabulous, by the way. 😀
We’re on the north side of Atlanta, so it was a short 3 1/2 drive for me to get here yesterday. I’m just over the mountain in middle TN, located between Nashville and Chattanooga.
I started the day with coffee and a Quest Bar, which is pretty much my usual lately.
I headed out with every intention of stopping for a decent lunch, but it was pouring down rain – and it didn’t let up until I arrived in Atlanta.
I decided to just grab something easy instead (that didn’t require me to get out in the rain -LOL) so I stopped at Arby’s and got a Roast Beef Max (their extra large roast beef sandwich). I took off the top bun and just ate the big warm strips of tender roast beef – with my fingers. Everything is finger food with me. 😛
Side story: I used to work at Arby’s. It was close to half my life ago, but the fact that I still eat there regularly is a testament to my experience. I worked the morning shift (as one of my 3 jobs) so I went in at 5am to make the biscuits and roast the beef.
Now for a confession. It was all I could do NOT to order Loaded Potato Bites to go with my roast beef non-sandwich.
Or a cherry turnover.
I was really pleased with myself for not ordering the carbs, and making it through the craving. The roast beef satisfied me, which was good, but I decided to treat myself to an iced coffee for a “sweet”.
I went through the McDonald’s drive-thru (again, it was *pouring* down rain) and got an Iced Coffee with sugar free vanilla. I actually prefer Starbucks because they’ll use heavy whipping cream instead of half ‘n half (which has more carbs than heavy cream).
But like I said, it was raining like crazy and there was no way I was going to get out and go into a Starbucks. 😛
As you can imagine, I was famished by the time I went to dinner. One protein bar (yummy as it was) and a pile of roast beef – it got me by, but I was definitely ready to eat by the time I met up with my friends in Atlanta for dinner.
Our group had a special reservation with a buffet. I skipped the salad (I’m kinda bored with salad lately) and just got a plate full of meat & veggies. The pork and chicken both were served in sauces – one was a mushroom sauce – which made me wary of the carb count… but I ate it anyway, and it was delicious. 😀
I think I mentioned my room here is fabulous. I’m staying at the Hilton Suites (Atlanta Perimeter). I’ll have to get some photos or video to share with you. You won’t believe what a great room I got for less than $93/night! I scored that deal by pre-paying for my room, which has a no refund / no cancellation policy. I use that option a lot to save big on hotels – most of them will let you prepay in advance at a much lower rate.
They had a nice little snack waiting for me in my room when I arrived. Bottled water and peanut butter cookies. I drank the water, and left the cookies. But I can’t say they weren’t tempting… 😉
KOOL stuff, Lynn!
You do KNOW how to travel. While I’m never thrilled about a 14+ hour flight, in general, I do like to travel about. The “change” does wonders for one’s psyche.
BTW … You’ve done an AWESOME job with this LCT blog. I’ve learned quite a bit about this low carb stuff.
Have Fun!

I agree – change of pace, change of scenery, it definitely does me good! And even better when you’re catching up with old friends. 😉 This long weekend away was just what I needed.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. It’s been a lot of fun so far! I’m amazed at how easy the low carb diet is, even when you’re traveling – or just eating out. While some people have a hard time sticking to a diet “on vacation”, I find it easier when I’m NOT near a stocked refrigerator. LOL.
