Saturday was a real struggle for me for some reason. One of those days when I’m fighting cravings all day long – and constantly having to remind myself why I want to lose weight and get in shape.
I started the day with a coffee and an Apple Pie quest bar, and got a little work knocked out in the early morning hours. But that was about it for my energy.
I spent the rest of the day feeling tired, and even fighting off a low grade headache. Probably just my Fall allergies at play. Not such a big deal as I didn’t have anything major planned…
I did have an hair appointment at 11am, and by then I was hungry again. (I get up early.)
My daughter went with me, so we stopped by Hardee’s on the way and I grabbed a Sausage & Egg biscuit – and just ate the sausage & egg of course.
And boy, I was glad I did. They had a beautiful display of sweets at the Beauty Shop, all set up for Halloween. Punch, cookies, candy, pastries and chocolate covered donuts. Yes, chocolate covered donuts! Eek! 😐
I spent two hours in the shop, within smelling distance of the donuts, and while I enjoyed looking at them – I never even touched one. I was seriously proud of myself – LOL. But I think that’s what tipped off the internal struggle that plagued me for the rest of the day…
We were planning to go grocery shopping after the hair appointment, which I really wasn’t up for (when am I ever? LOL). Fortunately my daughter decided she didn’t really feel like it either, and I was grateful. Grocery stores can be a madhouse on a Saturday afternoon. 😛
We decided to go out for lunch instead, and she picked Mexican. I ordered two Chicken Quesadillas with some sour cream & lettuce on the side:
Delicious! Of course, I didn’t eat the tortillas. Just the grilled chicken, cheese, lettuce & some sour cream. And I had a large water with my meal. Yay me! (I’m making an effort to drink more water lately.)
We hit RedBox on the way home, and came home and watched Zookeeper (stupid movie). After that I took a nap, hoping to shake my blah feeling and my headache. No luck. (Fortunately I’m feeling TONS better today – Saturday was just one of those off days. I’m blaming the donuts – LOL.)
Later we watched a second movie while eating dinner. This time “Source Code” which I actually liked – really good movie!
Dinner was Wendy’s Chili. A small cup is 15 net carbs. I usually put it in a bowl and add my own shredded cheese & sour cream, but last night I just ate it straight out of the cup.
It was a great night to curl up in front of the TV with a fleece blanket and a hot cup of chili!
Oh, and ignore the French Fries in that picture. That’s an obstacle illusion. Or an optical delusion. (See fortune cookie below from earlier this week.) LOL – yes, I finally gave in at the end of the day and totally blew it. 😛 *sigh* After doing so well! That’s okay, today will be a better day…
I aim to get in a nice long walk today. It’s freezing outside right now, but there’s going to be about one full hour where it’s actually 60 degrees and sunny (between 2-3pm) so that’s my window.
How about you – how’s your diet & exercise going this weekend??

“Susan” joined you on your walk on the wild side. As you say, today will be a better day. Well, for me I think tomorrow will be a better day. I won’t be home tomorrow for trick or treat so I had to put the candy in a big bowl for my husband to pass out. Unfortunately a few got stuck to my fingers. I tried so hard to get them unstuck, but the ended up in my mouth LOL. Oh, the long and winding road………………
Wishing you a great week of room service and eating out.

I try not to be too hard on myself. After all, yesterday’s eats were SO much better than a typical day *before* I went on this low carb mission. π I used to eat french fries almost every day, and every meal was a major splurge -lol.
The worst of it is working out the thoughts & feelings going on in my head. There are people who LOVE food, and there are people who just eat for fuel (because they have to). And then there are people who completely obsess about food and think about it all day long – and dream about it at night! haha – that’s me π
Lynn Terry says
p.s. Sometimes I ALLOW myself an entire “off day”. And it helps. Because it’s never as good or as fun as I envisioned…

I am having a “weekend off” and have had pasta and cake. And the pasta is *definitely* not as good as I remember. The chocolate cake …. that’s a different story ;). Nov 1st is my 1 year anniversary of low carb/Paleo so I will back on track, and I hope my weekend off will push me through my plateau.
Lynn Terry says
That’s awesome, Christie – both on taking the weekend off, and on reaching your one year anniversary! I decided to take today off myself. And while I haven’t done any major splurging, I basically just needed to “let go” and stop stressing about it.
I would love to hear what kind of results you’ve seen in the last year, and anything significant you’ve learned along the way!

My Saturday craving was salsa. I bought a jar last night. Today I’ve had it on a breakfast burrito and a taco for lunch. I will go over my carb count today with already having two (low carb tortillas AND salsa) but some days are just off days.
I’ve gone through several of those food “mentalities” you mentioned, but for the most part I could really give up food completely if I didn’t HAVE to eat it. I’m really bad about forgetting to eat. It blows my husband’s mind that someone can forget to eat. LOL.
If I eat junk (processed carbs) I will stay hungry all the time and my sugar levels get way off. But now that I’m back on low carb, I’m back to forgetting to eat at regular intervals because my sugar is more regulated.
I do need to work harder on making sure my daily carbs are at 20 grams. I could do that if I’d start drinking hot tea again instead of extra coffee. Not sure why I stopped that.
We’re all a work in progress, eh?
Lynn Terry says
Absolutely π What I am using in my coffee is heavy whipping cream and sugar free flavored syrup (or sometimes Splenda). That cuts out the carbs so I can still enjoy my coffee!
I’ve always been one of those that enjoyed food (too much! lol). It’s so bad I always feel like I’m cheating on my date with my meal. π haha

I try to get rid of the fries before I can eat them. Here are the various ways. Perhaps there are more creative ways, but these are mine:
1. Foist them off on others who are less than size 10.
2. Put them in the garbage and immediately put more garbage on top of them.
3. Put them in the garbage disposal en masse and run it immediately.
4. Drop them on the floor and don’t pick them up in 5 seconds or less.
Lynn Terry says
LOL those are some great ideas! Better yet if I don’t even buy them in the first place. π

LOL I love the message in the fortune cookie: obstacle illusions.
I’ve also felt really tired and drowsy lately. Have no energy to anything except the minimum daily exercise. Maybe it’s partly that evenings are getting really dark here in Finland. Yawn..
I’ve heard that candy corn is big in US. It’s on my list of things to try when I come over to visit. π
Lynn Terry says
Yeah, I couldn’t figure that fortune cookie out. I started at it blinking and processing for quite a few minutes -lol.
I think the change of season is the culprit. A lot of people are reporting the same. I’ve been “blah” now for the last 7-8 weeks. I DID get my walk in today though! π
And yeah, candy corn is big this time of year. Let me know when you are over for a visit – we’ll have to get together and enjoy some food! π

Hi Lynn,
Don’t beat yourself up about the cheat. It happens. Actually, sometimes my biggest “whoosh” weight loss moments happen the week after a significant cheat. Not sure why, but I am guessing that cheating can actually inspire you (via guilt) to be extra strict for a little while afterwards. As long as you enjoyed your cheat, that is what counts.
One other note: I have also enjoyed Wendy’s chili. When you are traveling, Wendy’s is just about the only fast food chain with tasty lower carb options. I like their half-sized Cobb salad with avocado ranch dressing, too. Just wanted to let you know that I don’t have a blood sugar spike after eating a large Wendy’s chili; and I’ve managed to stay in ketosis though I’ve eaten a big bowl. I think that its about the kidney beans. That is the main source of carbs in their chili. For some reason, I don’t have the glucose spike reaction to beans to that others complain of. I know, because I’ve checked on my glucometer. Go fig.

Hi Kate,
I haven’t tried Wendy’s Cobb Salad – sounds fabulous! I have experienced the same following a “cheat day” and do often eat more “clean” following that – and also wondered if it helped just by presenting a change to my body too.
I imagine our bodies get used to our usual intake or routines. Similar to how mixing up your exercise routine gives you better results. I’m not sure.
Speaking of exercise, I did the Zumba Cardio Party DVD yesterday. FUN! My Dane was totally freaked out by the sound the Zumba sticks make though π LOL…
