It’s time for another fun mini-challenge! This low carb weight loss challenge will run for 20 full days, from Tuesday July 12th to Sunday July 31st. The starting weigh-in will be on July 12th, and the final weigh-in will be on Monday August 1st.
This is a unique mini-challenge set up to help you see the BEST results in just 3 short weeks! You’ll find the challenge details below…
It’s just 20 days. Only 3 weeks.
You can do this!
July 2016 Low Carb Mini-Challenge
Duration: 20 Days
Dates: Tue July 12th – Sun July 31st
Challenge Details:
– Starting weigh-in will be on Tuesday, July 12th
– Final weigh-in is on Monday, August 1st
– Eat 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum every day
– Give up ONE thing in your diet
– Exercise daily (or at least 5x/week) at your own level
– Optional: KISS/3IMAX 3 Ingredients Rule – A great kick start or stall-breaker!
– NO CHEATING. It’s only 20 days. 🙂
By committing to this challenge you agree to stay on track for 20 straight days by eating 20 net carbs per day MAX, and at least 70% of your calories in healthy fats.
If you need information on this see Low Carb, High Fat Explained. If you are not tracking, or not sure how to track, I use MyFitnessPal and this is how I have it set up to track Net Carbs and other macronutrients (like 70% fat minimum).
You can learn more on the Getting Started page too.
Do you need to break a food habit? Part of this mini-challenge is to “give up ONE thing” in your diet that you feel would help you lose weight faster OR eat healthier. That might include: artificial sweetener, diet soda, mindless snacking, processed foods or bars/shakes, etc. YOU pick the one thing you would like to remove from your diet.
This challenge is your chance to make positive change!
Exercise at your own level. This part of the challenge is designed to encourage you to be more active in your everyday life! You don’t have to spend hours in the gym or on the treadmill either. I often do my Tricep Dips and my Ab Carver (both!) while half a pot of coffee is brewing. 🙂
If you are unable to do strength training or high impact exercises, consider what you CAN do – water aerobics, yoga, just moving any way you can even. Again, the goal is simply to be more active and move your body more!
If you’re able, I encourage you to REALLY challenge yourself. If you’re not able to exercise at all, I encourage you to join in and do the rest of the challenge ANYway!

Here’s to an awesome July together! 🙂 *cheers*

yessssssssssss I am ready !! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US ~~
I am in!!!
This is 3 weeks before vacation…this is just what I needed
I’m excited to join! It will overlap with the last 2 days of my 90-day low carb challenge (I restarted April 16, because I had a major cheat meal :P), but that’s okay. I will weigh in a few days late, when I get access to a scale, but I’m maintaining, so I might skip the weigh-ins. Anyway, I re-read your article on 3IMAX and it finally clicked for me that I should try it for digestive health, because I get acid reflux and stomach aches way too often, even eating low carb. I’m starting tomorrow morning. Do you have some suggestions for good resources to read about food combining? Thanks so much for hosting these awesome challenges! I was never able to stay on track longer than 30 days straight before joining the 90 day challenge, and low carb has now become a lifestyle for me.
That’s so awesome, Kaylyn! π
Besides this post on the “3 Ingredients Rule” with examples: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/6064/3-ingredients-rule/ just google Food Combining. There is tons of cool information – and I love ANYthing science! π
That alone, figuring out the food combinations, should help A LOT with your digestive issues.
Thanks for the reply. I didn’t make it one meal doing 3IMAX, so I think I will do 4 or 5 ingredients to keep myself sane and my OCD in check. π
I’ve found some pretty weird stuff about food combining that seems to only apply for those who eat carbs like fruit and starch, but I will keep looking.
Thanks for trying to make it a no brainier for us you do a great job encouraging everyone now all we have to do IS DO IT. THANKS GERI
I signed up but I did it for the 90 day. I want to sign up for the 20 day first. Can you help me?! Thank you!
Hi Christina,
If you got this post by email, you’re already on the list. π You can try signing up in the box above (in the post, where it says to sign up) and if that tells you that you’re already subscribed… you’re good to go!
Cool! Thanks!
Hi Lynn, if I received the 20 day challenge info by email does it mean I’m already signed up for the Chalenge?
Thanks, Patricia
Yes, you’re good to go! π I’ll double check and make sure I mentioned that in the post above…
Hi Lynn, yes you did mention it , just saw that sorry I missed it!
Ok….I’m in! I need to give up the eating in the evening, even if it is low carb. I’ve been unable to get the scale to budge, so hoping this 3 week challenge will do the trick. Then I’ll be ready for the 90 day challenge to get rid of the last 15-20 lbs.
Meanwhile, I’m off to walk the golf course today!
This is a great stall-breaker: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/6064/3-ingredients-rule/ Going THAT simple makes a huge difference, and gets the scales moving again!
If im not on facebook. Where do u do my weight at? Or is it not posted somewhere
Hi Cindy! You’ll enter your starting weight and any other weigh-in’s in your MyFitnessPal account. If you’re not on Facebook for the group weigh-in threads, you are welcome to post here on my blog on on my Instagram updates if you don’t mind it being public. Otherwise you can weigh in at the end here with your total loss. π
My instagram is http://www.instagram.com/lowcarbtraveler
I’m in..Thank you for this mini challenge. I’m going to SC at he end of the month & hoping to lose a few pounds before we go.
I’m in!
I cannot wait! I’ve been on keto for 3 weeks and have lost 9 pounds but have been stuck at 185 now for the past week, so I need this. I get married in January and hoping to get down to 140-145.
Congrats on losing 9 pounds already, Sarah! It’s normal to experience a brief hold or even slight fluctuations around week 2 and/or 3 after your initial weight loss, by the way. That’s just your body adjusting to such quick loss! Keep doing what’s obviously working so well. π
Summer time is a super time to go fresh food vs. processed foods. My pantry is empty of processed foods, thanks to my hubby who is following this plan with me. We were getting into a rut of what to eat, this will help us jump to new menus.
I’m ready! And, this will be a challenge as I will be on vacation one week and hormonal another week of this challenge. Yikes! Anyway, Ive started a habit of baking LC and having a treat almost every evening. My speciality is LC chocolate chip mug cake. Even though I’m baking LC I have noticed my cravings for sweets starting to come back. So, I’m committing to give that up and break this habit once again! Good luck everyone!
I am all in and ready!
I’m so glad you’ve all joined in! π I’m super excited about this short mini-challenge, specifically for the EXERCISE challenge, which is where I’m really focused right now… for toning. π I’ll share some fun EASY exercises you can do at home (or anywhere) along the way – plus EASY low carb meal ideas as usual! *cheers*
Low carb is my woe now. I have been looking forward to trying some of the keto snacks. I guess i can still incorporate these items in my diet as long as i track the carbs
it is sometimes very difficult for me to stay at 20 net carbs because i like cheese and yogurt. I may have to give it up for this challenge.
I would try just the yogurt, or only pick ONE thing to give up for the 20 day mini challenge. You probably know what mine is! π haha *sigh*
I can’t wait to start!
Hi Lynn. So happy to see this mini-challenge; the timing is perfect! Down 33 lbs. as of today since March 20th, need all the support I can get to reach my goal. Thanks for all you do to help all of us on this journey!! I look forward to your daily posts.
I am in! Recovering from spinal surgery, so I cant do all the same workouts, but I can certainly eat low carb.
Im in!! I really need this challenge.
I am so in for this challenge!!!! I am on holidays for the whole time and planned to focus on health and fitness. Thanks for the mini-challenge!!!
I really need this challenge Lynn. I have gained some weight lately due to eating my emotions. But I refuse to beat myself up about it. I am back on track as of today and ready for the challenge.
Maria, did you see my recent post on emotional eating? About FEELING the void instead of FILLING the void? I wrote about it here during the last challenge: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/10722/avoid-emotional-eating/
Very excited to give this a go…going to give up alcohol which is the #1 reason I have failed this in the past….thank you!
Good one, Amy! Occasionally I drink zero carb or very low carb alcoholic beverages, but alcohol metabolizes MUCH slower than food and creates what’s referred to as “the alcohol stall.”
I’m in! I weighed in still sitting at 180, but I’m losing inches my clothes are getting way loose, I made a version of your chicken Alfredo stew last night, but I used pork tenderloin broccoli and cauliflower onions and chicken broth! It was yummy I cooked past on the side for my hubby and he loved it too! Thanks for all the great ideas! I’m excited to see where I end up on this challenge! Thank you for you inspiration!
I’m in!!! I participated in the 90 fay challenege and started off fantastic but found myself slowly retreating back to my normal woe. I had alot of emotional reasons for doing this including a major death in my family. I did stay LC for the most part but there were definitely days where I fell way off the wagon. But….today is a new day, and a new challenge and I’m ready.
I’m so sorry to hear that you went through such a hard time, and lost someone you loved. My heart goes out to you. *hugs*
Thanks so much. *hugs*
I’m so excited to begin a new challenege and as always I love seeing your daily posts and meal ideas. You look fabulous by the way, keep up the great work Lynn!!! βΊ
Hi Justine
i am glad you are back
i missed reading your posts everyday. I was worried about you
i hope you can get back on track now.
You were doing so good with your very low carb meals. Good Luck.
Hi Gina!! It feels good to be back. Aww thanks, I really enjoyed participating everyday and am definitely getting back on track now. I am still going to try to keep my meals as low carb as I can possibly get them. Good luck to you too! βΊ
I missed you as well. I noticed when you stopped commenting, and after a few days I thought about reaching out via email to check in… but hesitated to be too intrusive. Silly me. π I’m so glad to see you here again!!
I missed you too Lynn! Although I didn’t fully participate in the challenge until the end I did stop in to check on everyone’s progress. And then I would kick myself for not staying on track because everyone had great results lol. But, I’m definitely back and ready to stay on the wagon. Aww you could’ve reached out to me I wouldn’t have felt you were being intrusive one bit. That’s ok though cause I’m definitely here now and feel great about my goals. βΊ
im ready to lose some weight YAY
I am new to low carb so any pointers will be greatly appreciated
thanks
Hi Phyllis! There is a Getting Started page here: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/start-low-carb-diet/ You should have also received that in your welcome email. π
Perfect just in time for my birthday. The weight is starting to creep up on me π totally need this to motivate me to get back on track. Thanx!
New to this site, first of all thank you for the add~ Joined the 20 day challenge. I use LoseIt for all of my tracking, have all of my recipes etc. in this app therefore don’t care to switch to MFP. Is this an issue? Can I weigh in and post elsewhere or do you suggest I reactivate my MFP account just for the weigh in’s? Any assistance would be appreciated. Good Luck Everyone! Thank you for allowing me to walk this journey with you.
Hi Rose,
You can use any app you prefer! The point is just that you DO track your progress, that’s all. π
I’m in! Let’s do this!
I have been 100% on my macros for 3 days now. This challenge is gonna help me keep that going. I can only walk for exercise at this time but it’s been a struggle to do that. I’m using this challenge to get me moving more. I am going to cut way down on sugar substitutes (stevia).
I’m excited to be a part of this challenge! I have no Idea how much I actually weigh/ I’m 5 foot and weigh way to much. So at Midnight July 12th I’m gonna weigh in for the first time in over a year. This is all new for me although I joined the group last year I’ve just began to really be successful for the last few days. It’s bee a lot just giving up sugar so giving up artificial sweeter will be very hard as I thought stevia ortyhe organic blue liquid sweetener ,is OK? Like the above post says I’m going to cut way back on sugar substitutes. TY all
Hi Donna,
Don’t try to give up everything at once. π That’s too hard! Start REALLY simple: 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum. Use the artificial sweeteners to get started if it helps. You can give things up later in your journey, when you’re feeling more adapted and ready to make healthy swaps. I say that because “feeling deprived” sucks and always tanks my motivation. π So just keep it simple to start!
I am excited and ready to go. I am at 177.5 lbs today and need to lose around 35 lbs. I am excited. Thanks for all the help.
Ready! Weigh in this morning 138.5; 8.5 lbs to lose.
I’m excited to participate again. Weighed in at 265.8 the lowest I’ve been in a while thanks to the 90 day challenge. I’ve been serious LC since the middle of Feb. 2016 after a long break. Love your tips and website. Thanks for the motivation!
I’m ready weighted myself this morning and took my before pictures. I’m weighing in at 171. I really want to hit my goal weight which is 160.
hello are we weighing in every week for challenge
Yes, we’ll weigh in on Tuesday the 19th and again on the 26th and the final weigh in will be on August 1st.
I’m in !! Perfect time for me to get back on track after a vacation with the grand kids. At work and will weigh in tonight. Exercise is the hardest for me. Time & Motivation ugh. But I will do something everyday.
Thanks !!
Weighed in this morning at 174.8 lbs.
Forgot to weigh in yesterday. Weight today is 201. I’m in!
okay, Terry I’ve been following you on IG for some time now and you have motivated me…I’m joining your challenge and even had Bulletproof coffee this morning. I’m ready to change, I’m at my highest weight ever and just can’t stay motivated or seem to stick to anything. LET’S DO THIS! I’ll find you on facebook later today.
Welcome Susan! π You should get the facebook link in your welcome email. I look forward to getting to know you. I’m so glad you joined us!! Here’s to AWESOME results… *cheers*
Hi there, I’m excited to do the 20 day challenge but I have a couple of questions,
1) I missed the initial weigh in day can I still post my weight today (july 13)?
2) is there a separate fb group for the 20 day challenge because for the life of me I can’t find it anywhere!
3) should we be friends on MFP? if so my user id is kristafb.
Thanks, I really need to refocus. I’ve been totally off the rails lately and gained 20 lbs!
Krista
I’ve been low carb for a while, but getting quite serious right now with this challenge since I am doing bloodwork on the 27th. Beginning weight 288, in three days I have lost 6 pounds.
Way to go, Cecilia! And that’s a GREAT motivation. π I just had it done recently and really wanted good results, and it felt good to GET them! *cheers*
How do I sign up to get started, this month?
Hi Sheila π Just sign up here on this page in the post where it says to sign up, and join right in!
