I had a very odd day yesterday. After 7 full days on a 3IMAX Low Carb Diet, yesterday – Day 8 – I had NO desire for food. NONE.
At first it wasn’t a big deal. I’m not a big breakfast eater, so I didn’t think much of it when I wasn’t in the mood for my usual “breakfast snack”. I just drank my coffee, and another bottle of water, and figured I would eat when I got hungry.
I never did. Get hungry, that is. (?!)
I could tell my stomach was empty, but I had ZERO appetite. I wanted to do my workout though, and since I couldn’t bring myself to stuff down food for no good reason (I’m a big believer in the “listen to your body” concept)… I just grabbed another bottle of water and went for it.
I did the Alpha Cardio workout on the T25 Fast Track Program. And before I started that I did 30 reps on my Ab Carver Pro – 10 forward and 10 to each side.
I made it through the entire workout, hot sweaty and a little weak feeling after – but that’s normal for me given how out-of-shape I am. 😛 I grabbed another bottle of water and another coffee and went about my day.
I decided to make low carb coconut oil fudge, thinking that would stimulate my senses, but I couldn’t even want to lick the spoon – or my finger. Food just did NOT appeal to me all day long for some weird reason. VERY odd.
After I made the fudge I took a nice long 3 hour nap. I figured I would wake up with an appetite. Especially knowing there’s fudge in the fridge. 🙂 Nope…
It never happened. Ever.
At 9:30pm I made a nice hot cup of chicken broth. I had no issue with coffee or water, so I figured the broth would be nice. And it was – delicious, actually.
I ended up making another, and enjoyed the hot mug of broth out on the back deck with Slim.
So for the entire day I only had:
11 cups of coffee
2 cups of chicken broth
8 glasses of water (64oz)
I do drink a lot of coffee, lol.
Let me also say… Saturday was a LONG day. I got up early, around 5:30am, I ended up taking a long 3-hour nap, and I was up until 3:30am .
So I was awake and “not eating” for 19 hours yesterday. 😐
I did put one of the fudge squares in my 10th cup of coffee – just to add some (liquid) calories, since the chicken broth was only 10 calories per cup. I ended up adding a TBSP of salted butter to that cup of coffee, just to make it taste better.
What a WEIRD day…
552 calories
9 net carbs, 10 total carbs
89% fat / 4% protein
Water: 64 ounces
* I woke up weighing about the same today. I didn’t sleep enough to get an accurate weigh, though. I’ve found 6 hours of sleep to be my minimum for weight loss, and I slept just under 5 hours – maybe 4 1/2. So yes, another nap is in line for today! lol.
Anyway, my weight and measurements are still both exactly the same, but I FEEL different. And I even LOOK different in the mirror. So it’ll be interesting to see how the scales respond over the next day or so…
Coffee Update
While gearing up for the second half of my 17-Day Low Carb Mini-Challenge, which will be a Zero Carb Week, I’ve been weaning myself off the Coffee-Mate Sugar Free Hazelnut Powdered Creamer I thought I couldn’t live without. I started by going from 1 TBSP per mug of coffee, to 1/2 TBSP + 1/2 TBSP HWC (Heavy Whipping Cream). Now I’m town to 1 TSP of each – so I’m using 1/3 the amount per cup I used to.
Now I think I’m finally ready to ditch it altogether!
I brewed cinnamon in with my coffee this morning, and used 1 TBSP of HWC -only. We’ll see how that goes. I really LOVE my coffee, so it’s almost sad to be giving up such a rich creamy coffee that enjoy so much. I guess it wouldn’t be a problem if I didn’t enjoy TOO much of it. 😛 *sigh*
Starting My Zero Carb Week A Day Early
I decided I should start my “Zero Carb Week” part of this challenge a day early. This weird no-food/fasting day felt like a good buffer, and a good opportunity to go ahead and make the switchover.
It will be 8 full days of zero carb eating. Meaning: mostly meat & eggs + fat (heavy cream, mayo, real butter, coconut oil, olive oil, etc). There will be a small number of minimal carbs of course since eggs are .6 carbs each, and HWC is .4 carbs per TBSP.
Want to follow along? 🙂 Click Here For The Zero Carb Mini-Challenge
And yes, that means I now have 23 pieces of beautiful low carb fudge that will go to total waste -lol. Anyone local want to come over and enjoy it??
I also ordered a FitBit Flex last night. I’m headed to Vancouver next week, and I thought it would be fun to track my “travel steps” through airports – and of course nice walks along White Rock Beach. 🙂
What about you? How’s Low Carb going for you?
And have you EVER gone a WHOLE day without food? That just seems weird to me, lol. I figure my body must have it’s reasons, so I just respected that…
Best,

Hi Lynn,
It’s fine to have a not hungry/no food day. When you’re in ketosis, it’s actually normal. Dr. Tim Noakes talks about athletes on low carb who compete on no food, pure ketosis. It’s a sign that everything is working well! π Some call it intermittent fasting, Jimmy Moore has spoken of it as well. I love those days, sometimes will grab an Atkins shake just to get some protein in. π
Good luck with the coffee creamer! I’m going to simplify this week – been stuck on a plateau for 3 weeks! But I’m at a weight I haven’t been for years, so the old body is just adjusting, I think.
Hey, thanks for all you do, grateful for the encouragement and support you give us all.
Jo

Thank you, Jo! π
I’ve been eating a ketogenic LCHF diet for more than 4 years, or the better part of it, so I’ve experienced minimal appetite for sure – but NEVER a day that food didn’t appeal to me at all.
Usually I’m just disinterested – not downright repulsed by the thought of it, lol.
I’ve been up about an hour and a half so far today, and am content with my coffee at the moment. But I just boiled eggs, have sausage & fried eggs on the menu for today, and have some baked chicken thighs in the refrigerator – so I aim to EAT today. π

Something odd was going on with me yesterday, outside of my total lack of appetite. I also felt deeply emotional – going between sad and angry. Mostly grief and stress coming to the surface.
It felt like my mind and body were too busy dealing with that… to deal with food. And typically… I’m an emotional eater. So it was a first for me. An odd experience indeed.

I have to say, if I ever have a day where I willingly don’t eat anything all day just because I don’t feel like it, my family would probably have me checked out. LOL
As for the fat bombs, pop them in the freezer. They’ll be just as good next week. π
I actually freeze mine from the start. I like them better that way usually anyway.
Lynn Terry says
Ah smart! I was about to toss them in the trash, lol. Thanks for the save! I hate to waste…
Yeah, very weird – especially for me. I love food. π lol
I still have no appetite. I’ve had coffee and chicken broth so far this morning, but I’ve got some good zero carb foods to kick off this 2nd half of the challenge… so I plan to have a meal shortly… and a nap. π

Wow no food all day! I don’t think I’ve ever done that. My appetite has diminished though, eating small portions when I do eat. Do you make your own Bone Broth? I see you’re using EN Swanson broth, what does the EN stand for? Do you prefer Swanson broth to others? I really like Kitchen Basics. I made your recipe for sausage biscuits and had one this morning along with my reg breakfast of cottage cheese, pecans, strawberrries. I am trying to log in what I eat in FitnessPal but it’s hard when I make a big pot of something and then have a small portion of it? Like I made Paula Deen’s easy corned beef & cabbage recipe and it makes a big pot. Not sure how to log that? When I see what you’re eating on the no carb week I’ll try to follow along. Thanks for your help and ideas.

Thank you Roye π I do feel better today, but still “off”. Something is definitely up with my tummy too – so just letting that sort itself out.
I buy Campbell’s chicken broth – the canned kind you usually cook with. But my daughter got me Swanson brand when she went to the store for me last, so that’s what I hand on hand. I have no idea what the “EN” stands for, but it was the only entry in MFP that was accurate (according to my label) – as far as calories, carbs, fat, etc.
For recipes, I use the MFP recipe calculator. It’s free & easy! Then I figure out how many servings – and measure out what I eat of it and log the number of servings I have.
Let’s say it makes 1 gallon of soup, and you eat 2 cups of it. There’s 16 cups in a gallon, so that’s 8 servings. Hope that helps. π

P.S. I meant to also say I’m sorry you were feeling so bad yesterday, sad and angry, grief and stress, horrible feelings, I hope you’re feeling much better now.

Very helpful. I was doing great on the low carb diet, but I just had some dental work done and coffee is the only thing thing i have felt like eating. The broth seems like a good idea too. I was about to throw in the towel, but now I can just focus on a liquid no carb diet until i am back to normal. Thanks-I love following you on Instagram too.
Lynn Terry says
Hi Diana,
There are protein shakes that are low carb too. And creamed eggs are good – boiled eggs mashed up with mayo & salt. Get well soon!!
Mary Dorsey says
What are the peanut butter squares you are referring to?
Lynn Terry says
Hi Mary π
You’ll find them here: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/6247/low-carb-peanut-butter-fudge/ It’s a very simple low carb / lchf peanut butter fudge recipe. Some people call them “fat bombs”. I call them “a lower carb way to enjoy peanut butter” -lol. Enjoy!
