Join us for the Fall 2016 Low Carb Challenge!
We have some catching up to do. 🙂 I fell behind sharing my food diaries with you because I had a super busy week. Then I didn’t feel well yesterday. AT ALL.
I still went blueberry picking yesterday, but I had to sit down and just pick from the low branches a time or two. 😛
This great little spot is within an hour of where I live, maybe 40 minutes away. We picked 1 1/2 gallons in about 90 minutes, and enjoyed some sunshine and a good sweat!
Considering I only eat 17.5 grams of blueberries at a time (1/8 cup), my share will last me a lifetime 🙂 lol.
I was pretty wimpy yesterday, as you can probably tell from the picture. I woke up with a seriously upset stomach that switched next to acid reflux. Ugh. 😛
I’m not sure what caused that. My first thought was WAY too many nuts & coconut chips in a few short days. That could have easily been it.
Maybe it was just a bug, maybe stress, or maybe the Nyquil I took the night before – which may have kinda been on an empty stomach. 😐 That would do it!
Whatever the case, I decided to take it easy on the nuts yesterday and eat more high fiber foods and different things, and just rest. I feel much better today!
My weight dropped back down again too. 🙂
Both Wednesday and Thursday were higher carb days for me, but still all low carb foods. Here’s a quick photo tour of my two day’s worth of low carb meals – and how I tracked them in MyFitnessPal…
Wednesday’s Low Carb Meals
I had my usual low carb breakfast. 🙂 It’s 1/2 cup crushed pecans, 1/4 cup Daisy brand cottage cheese, 4 small diced strawberries & 17.5 grams of blueberries.
I have that almost every single day because it’s EASY, it’s all very healthy foods, and it has PERFECT macros (low carb, high fat): 6 net carbs and 85% healthy fat.
For lunch I wanted to try the ProTings Baked Protein Chips I got in my Keto Krate.
(You can still get a krate if you sign up today. They ship daily right now!)
I had two flavors (Sea Salt and Nacho), and I decided to eat them with a combination of sausage & spinach & eggs fried up together – with “a dollup of daisy” (sour cream) on top. That seemed like a good idea!
For some reason it just didn’t work for me. I put the chips up and decided to use those later. I think they’d be better as low carb nachos, or under a taco salad. 🙂
Instead I grabbed my Rosemary Flackers to eat with my “meat dip.”
The Flackers are really growing on me!
You can get the Flackers on Netrition in several flavors. I really want to try some of the other flavors myself. Anyway, THIS was really good together. 🙂
I didn’t really have a “proper dinner” on Wednesday…
I mentioned in my last diary that I was going to finish off the Coconut Chips while my body seemed a little out of whack. I think I ate too many. 🙂 haha
This MAY have been what had my tummy rumbling, on top of the WAY too many pecans & almonds I’d been eating the days leading up to this one.
I finished off the Cinnamon and Italian Espresso Coconut Chips (a full 1/2 cup serving of each) along with 1 ounce (28 grams) of Blue Diamond almonds. I mixed it all up together and enjoyed a “finger food” bowl of sweet ‘n salty yumminess. 🙂
That was entirely TOO good. 🙂 lol…
I went to bed feeling kinda hungry, but also couldn’t breathe and felt icky so that’s the night I took the dose of Nyquil and just crashed early.
Here’s My MyFitnessPal Diary for Wednesday:
Macronutrients: Simple Explanation Of Low Carb Macros

Thursday’s Low Carb Meals
I love this breakfast! 1/2 cup pecans, 1/4 cup Daisy cottage cheese, 4 small diced strawberries & 17.5 grams of blueberries = 6 net carbs and 85% healthy fat.
Even before I ate my favorite “low carb cereal” above for breakfast, I felt SICK. Violently ill, weak and shaky would be more descriptive. 😛
So for my next meal I kept it simple and bland…
I made up a quick 3 eggs scrambled with colby jack cheese, in real butter. It was easy, bland, filling, and only 1.2 carbs (eggs are .4 carbs each).
I actually woke up at 3am Thursday morning so the cereal and eggs were both very early meals. I was hungry again by the time we went out blueberry picking that afternoon – but still feeling sick and nauseated.
I decided to get a small chili from Wendy’s, which are 15 net carbs. I couldn’t finish it. I only ate about 3/4 of it. It did seem to make me feel a bit better though.
Want to see a cool picture? 🙂 I stopped and enjoyed this lunch on the 250 year old historic Birthing Tree on our way out of town.:)
When I got hungry again I still wanted something easy & bland, so I decided to try the new Yup Brands PB&J Protein Bar that also came in my Keto Krate. You know what I like about it? It only has ONE gram of sugar alcohols. 😉 I don’t think I could have handled something full of artificial sweeteners yesterday the way my stomach felt. 😛
This PB&J bar is 5 net carbs and the consistency reminds me of a Quest Bar. It’s not overly sweet like some bars, but it had good flavor. I like it!
I heard the Sugar Cookie flavor is even better! You can order individual bars on Netrition and they have 8 different flavors to choose from. If you order on Netrition you can get individual bars & mix ‘n match with Quest and/or Atkins Bars if you like. 🙂
I just realized I got up late last night (I was restless, couldn’t sleep) and ate a small bowl of what was left of the sausage, spinach & egg combo. That was probably 3 more carbs that I totally forgot to log. Wait – yes I did log it lol, I see it there…
Here’s My MyFitnessPal Diary for Thursday:
Calories: 1612
Net Carbs: 30
Total Carbs: 62
Protein: 89 Grams
72% Fat, 21% Protein
Water: 48 ounces
Both days were higher than 20 net carbs. I shoot for 20 net carbs max and 70% fat minimum, but all of my other macros and numbers were great.
Maybe I needed a few extra (GOOD) carbs. I know when I’m sick like I was that it’s best to eat what “sounds good” at the time.
Interestingly, I woke up lighter today!
I mentioned that my weight finally dropped back down, and it’s a NEW all-time low for me. My lowest weight a couple of weeks ago when I finally dipped into the 130’s was 139.8 pounds. This was my weight this morning… 🙂
I’m guessing my goal weight will be somewhere around 130 pounds, with more fat lost and MORE muscle gained. I want to be lean and strong, and HEALTHY.
It’ll be FUN to see how that plays out as a number on the scale, but I’m just going to continue losing this pudge around the middle… and keep working out HARD. 🙂
How are things going for you?
It’s day 12 of the 90 Day Challenge. 🙂 How are you doing with your low carb meals & macro tracking? Any questions or struggles? I would love to hear your results so far.
What kind of low carb meals do you have planned for the weekend??
Leave a comment and let’s talk!
Best,
Lynn Terry,

You have done such an amazing job at losing the weight and you look so happy. Congratulations! What scale do you use to weigh yourself? Most of them that I have looked at only show 1/2 pound increments. Thanks.
Thank you!! You will love this scale, Penny π It’s inexpensive, pretty!, accurate, and the batteries REALLY last: http://amzn.to/2bmGlGu It also comes with a free body tape measure. I love mine. I weigh daily and I think I’ve only changed the batteries ONCE in over 5 years. π
Hi Lyn
i hope you are feeling better today.
I was also feeling very bad and weak two days ago. Maybe it is a bug going around
i get gastric reflux from certain foods. Everyone is different. Nuts never affect me that way. What does is spicy hot foods. Tomatoe paste like Pizza sauce and fatty meats. Yesterday i had heartburn from having Home made chicken salad. I think it was the mayo….or red onion or both. But my low carb homemade chicken salad was delicious. I used the white meat chicken breast from a routissere chicken, mayo, mustard, celery, unsweetened pickle relish PECANS and seasonings. I think you would like this. I had it on my flackers and a side of green leafy lettuce.
You know i believe that eating more carbs sometimes helps me to get over stalls. It is the same theory of carb cycling but i do not eat really high carb on those days but more than 20 net carbs. I found out that i can eat 30 carbs a day and still lose weight.
I also believe that cycling calories can trick our bodies to lose weight too. As you know when we injest too few calories for a couple if weeks or more, our bodies switch into starvation mode thus slowing down our metabolism and we stop losing weight even though eating very few calories
For instance if i eat 1500 calories one day then 1200 another day and maybe i eat 800 only another day then 1000 the next day…..etc. then i have better success with my weight loss than if i consistently eat only 1000 calories every day. This has worked for me in the past. And i have kept off every single pound that i have lost in the past 2 1/2 years by doing so
This is not an absolute science but it works for me along with occassional IMF
Recently i ate higher carb one day…..maybe 50 or 60 carbs one day and i was sure i would show a gain but when i weighed i was 1 lb. Lighter to my amazement.
BUT with all this being said, everyone has to experiment to see what works for you
The body is so complex and our bodies fight for preserverance….of our fat….:(
I think there is a lot if truth to the benefits of carb cycling and calorie cycling but i do not do it the way the books say. I increase my carbs with low glycemic carbs and i still stay low carb but not Keto for those days
These are just my time tested to be true for me, theories.
Btw Lyn……try using coconut oil on your skin before going outdoors. It is a natural bug repellant. You can add pepperment oil for more protection. Bugs hate that and citronella oil. π
With all these nasty diseases going around from mosquitos be careful when going hiking. You really got a lit of bug bites..
Sorry for all the advice…..its my nursing background. I was a Nurse For 30 years. π i can’t help for thinking like a nurse all the time. lol.
That does sound really good! π Here’s my Low Carb Avocado Pecan Chicken Salad Recipe (ONE Net Carb): http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/6980/low-carb-chicken-salad-recipe/
I haven’t had ANY bug/mosquito bites at all this year until I somehow got out of ketosis. I found that interesting when we were discussing it on the last post. Even tromping through the woods and through rivers! Apparently mosquitoes don’t like keto girls. π
I rarely get acid or heartburn or anything. My stomach was just seriously unhappy and complaining every way it knew how. π I had 3-5 servings of nuts several days in a row, but the whole cup (and maybe a few extra!) coconut chips may have contributed as well. On top of that many nuts I mean.
I still think Nyquil on an empty stomach was the main culprit, lol. Lesson learned!
Ps. Congrats on the weight loss
my post above concurs with the fact that your higher carb days led to making the scales move again. π
I honestly think I was just back in ketosis after several days of eating super clean / low carb. I may have blown it eating the coconut chips, chili, bar, etc the last day and a half actually.
I’ll know over the next two days if my weight bloats up a bit and I have keto flu AGAIN. π ugh, lol.
It takes up to 72 hours, longer for women actually, to fully process any food you eat all the way through your body. Which is why it takes a good 3-5 days to get into ketosis.
It usually hits me on day 3 because I eat so simple – very few food combinations at once, and mostly just real food.
But I do agree that it’s good to change up your carbs and calories (with good choices, of course) and not to get into a “number routine” because your body gets used to that over the long term.
That sounds yummy. I would have loved to add grapes but i might try berries next time. I love chicken salad.
Yes i was reading that there are many reasons that mosquitos are attracted to some people more than others.
You may be right about Misquitos not liking keto people. Come to think of it i have not had hardky any bites this year as well. π
You know what I miss in my chicken salad? Dried cranberries. Those darned things are SO high in sugar, lol. I was thinking last night that blackberries might be REALLY good in a chicken salad… I have quite a few in the freezer from blackberry picking earlier this season so I may have to try that. π
Oh yeah……i love dried cranberries in salads of any kind. That is one thing i miss too. I tried a few sluced up cherries. Before. It added some sweetness to it too. Cherries are already out of seasson i think and are higher carb i think than strawberries or blackberries. I need some sweetness like that in my chicken salad to make it extra yummy.
If i eat any food that has Tha ingtedient sugar even if it is organic cane sugar in it. It will knock .me out of ketosis even if the product states it is low carb real sugar fructose and corn syrup are high glycemic foods and will raise our blood sugar levels and you will not stay in ketosis. That is why i am so nit picky about reading labels. Even sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners can raise your blood sugat. Stevia and erythitol have the lowest glycemic levels and will not raise your bs or knock me out of ketosis
i am not really worried about staying in ketosis. I lost 150 plus pounds with 30- 40 gms of carbs a day consistently. I may go for ketosis a few days then off again
i try ro limit fat intate when i am not in ketosis
this is what worked famously for me. So i will stay eat low carb but not keto every day
I have to stuck with what works for me
I’ve found ingredients to be very important as well. I’m not overly obsessive about it or anything, but it would be key if you DID need to stay in ketosis – if you’re epileptic, for example. Food science is such an interesting thing. There’s so much to learn and experiment with!:)
Congrats on the 130s Lynn!
I’m proud of myself. I have stuck to low carb for 4 days straight. That’s good for me since I’m usually sneaking other carby stuff in there here and there while still watching calories. Tonight was a big victory as I did not have my usual Friday night beer! Tomorrow we are going to a baseball game and I already have plans to head straight to the sausage place and get a nice big sausage or brat with kraut on it, no bun! Also taking some peanuts and the Keto Krate bagged snacks that came this month. If i’m prepared, I should feel better about resisting the other goodies there.
Have a great weekend everybody!
That’s awesome, Jenni π Way to go!! I always celebrate EVERY victory along the way. It’s the small things that add up to the ultimate lifestyle changes… and BIG results. π
Your plans sound solid. It’s nice to be able to get out and go do fun things without the focus being on the FOOD. Enjoy the game today!! π *cheers*
Wahoo, for the weight loss! The Nyquil could be the cause of your symptoms. I don’t know if you took the liquid or not but according to several web sites the carb count in the liquid is 19 for 2 Tablespoons, the calories – 93 and 13 grams of sugar. It could be the high sugar content that upset your stomach. I don’t take medicines at all because I have trouble with stomach upset with them. You also could have just been fighting off a virus. Hope you are back to normal soon.
It wasn’t the liquid, but wow – that’s a lot of carbs and sugar! π lol. Ack! Good to know. π And thank you – I feel TONS better, and felt better yesterday even. I’m so glad that passed as quickly as it did!
When I first tried flackers I didn’t love them either. Now I really like them, especially with cream cheese and smoked salmon.
I’ve gotten keto Krates for a long time and enjoy them very much! My favorite thing from July’s box was the chef cut chicken jerky. I love that stuff! I’ve gotten the august box but I’ve only eaten the pro tings. They’re just ok IMHO. I am excited about the brownie mix and the machaca.
Hi Emily π Check out my brownies: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/13196/low-carb-brownies/ I made them last night and they were AMAZING the way I made them. π π
The Chef’s Cut buffalo chicken jerky was my favorite too. I dipped it in ranch and it reminded me of boneless wings. π Delicious!!
