I’m feeling kinda miserable today. Just “Blah” really. Emotionally AND physically.
I didn’t get enough sleep last night for starters. That wasn’t intentional, I just woke up way before my alarm. And of course, once I’m awake enough for the thought of “coffee!” to enter my mind… the idea of sleep is OVER. lol.
Lack of sleep has affected my weight loss time and again, by the way.
I’ve noticed this every time I’ve gone through bouts of insomnia, so I really make it a point to get enough rest. And GOOD rest. More on that in a future post, because there’s some good science there…
I’m struggling lately because I’ve been dealing with a knot in my shoulder, and a pinched nerve that is affecting my neck and all the way down my left arm. Have you ever touched your tongue to a battery? Yeah. That’s what my left arm and shoulder feel like… x1000. 🙁 Ugh. It’s been like this for 4 or 5 weeks, so I’m working with my Chiropractor on that – and just scheduled a deep tissue massage (double ugh!).
I share all of this with you for two reasons. First, to validate a bad food choice I made yesterday (lol). And second, because how we FEEL often determines what we eat. Even though it should NOT. Ever.
Tip: Don’t feed the feelings!
I’m slightly disappointed in what I chose to eat late last night because it had tons of ingredients in it, so it’s not a 3IMAX friendly food. That’s all. My macros were actually fine, and I was within my carb count limit for the day.
I didn’t do my workout yesterday either. For obvious reasons (pain) – even though I know movement actually helps relieve the muscle tension. DUH. So today.. I am ON IT.
I said “slightly disappointed” just because I regret eating it (for more than one reason) and not working out. But I have a personal rule of “get over it, forgive yourself, onward & upward!” So there ya go.
With all that said, here’s my 6th day on the 3IMAX challenge…
3IMAX Challenge: Day 6 Low Carb Food Journal
For breakfast, I finished off the beautiful beef roast I cooked on Sunday. I love leftovers. 🙂 I didn’t bother making anything to go with it, I just heated it up and called it a meal.
For lunch I ate half the leftover sausage cooked the day before, with 1/3 cup of pecan halves and some colby jack cheese. Quick & easy!
For dinner, I ate the other three sausage patties that were leftover.
I’m glad I had leftovers yesterday, because I truly just did not feel like cooking OR getting out. I was just having one of those BLAH days. 😛
I got hungry before I went to bed, and here’s where I blew the 3IMAX deal (3 ingredients max). Ricky and I had stopped by the store the other day and I was scouring packages and labels just out of sheer curiosity. The PowerCrunch Bar was new to me. I hadn’t seen those before. “Hmm. Only 7 net carbs,” I said. Ricky grabbed a couple for us to try out…
Most “protein bars” on the shelf are very high carb. Even the low carb bars like Atkins bars and Quest bars can stall some people, so you want to be cautious with bars until you know how they affect YOU. Anyway, 7 net carbs for a bar is high to me, but I decided to test them and do some more research on them as a product. I planned to wait and do that AFTER the 3IMAX Challenge though.
But there I was, late last night, all out of leftovers… and hungry. I should have grabbed a handful of pecans. But there sat that bar on the counter – and I ate it. It’s all good, like I said my macros turned out fine for the day. I don’t know why it’s weighing on me like I ate a waffle or something. 😛 Probably just because I’m moody, lol. Still, on top of that I didn’t eat a single vegetable yesterday…
Here are my Macros & Totals for Day Six:
2,073 Calories
20 Net Carbs
29 Total Carbs
79% Fat / 18% Protein
I’m not 100% sure those calories are accurate, or if I ate 8 full ounces of beef roast – or what size “sausage patties” are in MFP, etc. You’ll notice though that the majority of my carb intake yesterday was: coffee creamer, sugar free chocolate, and that bar.
All junk I need to work on.
My goal for today is to work out and eat clean. I stopped on the way back from my appointment with the Chiropractor and grabbed a Low Carb Grilled Chicken Club. But I did pull some hamburger out to thaw and I have some veggies on hand, so it’ll be “real meals” for the rest of the day. 🙂

See you there!

p.s. The fact that I’m having TWO crap days in a row, and STILL eating low carb, is a WIN to me! 🙂 lol
It’s good that you can forgive yourself and move on. I’ve been in that rut before in the past where I may screw up and eat something I shouldn’t have at 10 am and figure “oh well, I’ve messed up the whole day so I may as well continue.” That turns into the whole week, then the whole month and here I am a year later having gained back the 20 lbs I lost a year ago. But there’s always a new day and the best time to start is now (although I started again yesterday).
Your posts have inspired me, so onward and forward!
It’s so easy for that to happen. It can unravel on you FAST! 😛 I know, it’s happened to me before as well.
I’m really glad you’re back to a healthier you, Alicia – that’s awesome!
Hi Lynn – Your roast looks fabulous! How do you cook it -would you share your recipe?
Hi Susan,
I think that was “hiding in the Macros”, lol. I used McCormick Beef Roast Seasoning, dissolved in two cups of hot water, poured it over a large beef chuck roast (2 pounds I believe) and cooked it in the slow cooker on high for 5 hours. It always turns out perfect!
I’m loving your posts! You don’t try to be perfect like most when doing this lo carb WOE.
Thanks for all the advice. I’m hoping to drop at least 40-45lbs by the end of Summer. I started the two week challenge on July 3 but I started my woe on July 1 (190 lbs). I’ve got a lot at stake here. Medical issues! I just want to feel healthy and finally wear that fitted black dress without my stomach showing bigger than my butt! Anyway, thank you for being brave enough to help people like me!
Thank you Sylvette! And yeah, perfection is NOT my gig -lol. 🙂 I have my own black dress that motivates me, and it helps to pull it out and admire it now and then. It’s great motivation!
That, and feeling good – which is huge. I have chronic pain & inflammation issues as I mentioned in this post, which used to be *horrible*. I used to see my chiropractor 3x a week. Now it’s maybe three times a year!
Eating a ketogenic low carb diet reduces inflammation, so it controls (if not cures) the symptoms for many people with things like arthritis or fibromyalgia, or any type of inflammatory issues. Which is big motivator for me!
Thanks for your comment about the protein bar. I have one in the cupboard that was given to me in a local grocery store as a promotion and just checked it – That “Simple Truth” protein Bar Peanut Butter Extreme which has 21g of protein also has 14g of carbs! Isn’t it simpler to eat peanut butter on celery or some cheese? Yikes, I’m giving this bar to my husband who doesn’t have a weight problem!
It’s amazing what you learn when you’re reading labels, isn’t it? I never even gave labels a second thought before going low carb! I find it encourages me to make MUCH healthier food choices. 🙂
The one positive (yes, let me turn this around! haha) about “testing” that protein bar NOW – while I’m in the middle of the super simple eating / 3IMAX challenge – is that I was able to tell 100% for sure, without a doubt, that it did not knock me out of ketosis or cause any cravings. It didn’t leave me bloated, or affect my losing streak. So that’s at least a good thing. Because if I were eating more “complicated” it really would have been hard to tell, so it was a good clean test! 🙂
The bar is decent, outside of being 7 net carbs, and I ordered some samples from the company to give it a more detailed review sometime in the future. *cheers*
awww don’t kick yourself. At least you stayed at your 20 net carbs 🙂 So glad you have this blog and all you are doing. It is helping me immensely… You are helping alot of people. I was thrilled to know that my 76 year old aunt and her husband are going to start eating this way. 🙂
I’m just glad you are human and that you are so loyal to our group that you would talk to us about it….thanx….very much!
Thank you both! That does make me feel better. I almost hated to share my MFP journal today (lol) – especially with it lacking ANY vegetables TOO, haha.
