I love sharing my low carb daily journals with you here, as it really holds me accountable.
I got off track there for a bit after the 90 Day Low Carb Challenge ended earlier this month, but not too bad. It wasn’t an all out binge, just a few comfort foods here and there while I was recovering from the flu.
The next 90 Day Challenge starts on March 1st, by the way – so make sure you’re signed up there if you want to join us! It’s free, and tons of fun. 😉
Yesterday (Monday) I decided to get back on track, and back into Ketosis. The good news is that I haven’t gained any weight. I just haven’t lost any lately either. And now that I’m almost over the flu – I’m ready to make those scales move again!
Oh, and I joined a local gym! 😀 I’ve been going for a month or so, closer to two months I think, with a local friend. I was just paying for a guest pass there for the first few weeks and finally committed to an annual contract. I am LOVING the workouts. I’ve been going 3-4 times a week, but am planning to start going daily for awhile. It’s very convenient, and they’re open 24 hours – which is a plus.
To give you a quick update, I’m still stuck at 163 pounds. I’ve been in a major weight loss stall the last few months. The scales have fluctuated back and forth about four pounds since October, but pretty much always fall back to 163.
I’m guessing there are two culprits to my stall. The first being that I’m within 20 pounds of my “ideal weight” and the second being a prescription I’ve been taking regularly. Which hopefully I’ll be off of by sometime next month (February). But I’m determined to work out and eat super low carb until the scales DO move again! Worst case scenario I’ll be healthier and happier, right? 🙂
So here’s what I ate on Monday, which is the day I decided to kick myself back into Ketosis…
For breakfast I had coffee with heavy cream and Splenda. Then for an early lunch I had a leftover (delicious!!) Ribeye Steak with a small portion of leftover sauteed green beans:
Then as a late lunch / early dinner I had Gorton’s Grilled Tilapia from the freezer. Their Tilapia is GREAT by the way. Their Salmon, not so much. But I usually keep the Gorton’s Tilapia on hand in the freezer. 😉
Later that night I had the toppings only off about half of a large Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza. My daughter had ordered it earlier in the day, and that made for a nice “indulgence” while I curled up and watched the rest of Bourne Ultimatum at the end of the day.
All super easy low carb meals of course. And it doesn’t seem like I ate very much yesterday, but I obviously ate plenty because I didn’t go to bed hungry!
I have no idea yet what I’m going to eat today. I seriously need to do some grocery shopping. I think I’ll just grab low carb take-out on my way to the gym this morning, and then I’ll figure it out from there…
What about you? We haven’t chatted in awhile. I would love to hear an update! Are you on track with your diet & fitness goals for the New Year, ready to get BACK on track with me, or have any great weight loss updates to share? 😀

Hi Lynn! I admire your 3-4 day gym ritual. Ken and I joined one in December but we haven’t come up with a schedule. It’s sort of “hit and miss”, depending on our schedules. We’ll have to do better! Can you explain more what Ketosis is and how you kick it in gear?

I’m aiming to work out EVERY day for awhile, though some days I’ll work out at home with my Zumba DVD’s or my Gazelle. I’m heading to the gym today though. π
Ketosis is a state where you body starts burning fat for energy. Eating super low carb changes your bodies chemistry, and helps you lose weight FAST. See this article on the Atkins site:
http://www.atkins.com/Science/Articles—Library/Obesity—Weight-Loss/What-Induction-Can-Do-For-You.aspx
Also, from Wikipedia:
“If the diet is changed from a highly glycemic diet to a diet that does not provide sufficient carbohydrate to replenish glycogen stores, the body goes through a set of stages to enter ketosis. During the initial stages of this process, blood glucose levels are maintained through gluconeogenesis, and the adult brain does not burn ketones. However, the brain makes immediate use of ketones for lipid synthesis in the brain. After about 48 hours of this process, the brain starts burning ketones in order to more directly use the energy from the fat stores that are being depended upon…”
If you “cheat” on the low carb diet, or fluctuate your carb intake too high and low, you’ll knock yourself out of Ketosis – or prevent yourself from getting into that state. It’s the ideal state to burn fat fast. π

Thank you! I’ve read all of the Induction articles and this is excellent. I was definitely making a few significant mistakes. lol

Awesome! You’re welcome. π I’d be curious to hear what “mistakes” you were making?? I would guess they’re common. π
