I meet with my friend Erica at a coffee shop in the city every week, and they have the most beautiful pastries and muffins on display. Erica eats Gluten Free, by the way, and of course I eat Low Carb.
Bakery type shops are not exactly the best type to choose (lol), but we make it work!
This morning I had breakfast at The Corner Bakery Cafe before I left Atlanta to drive back home.
I was there for the Savvy Blogging Summit, and they had given us all a $10 gift card for the cafe, which was super nice. Angie and I walked over from the Hotel W, and I have to admit I was a little wary about eating at a bakery. Not that I can’t usually find something to eat pretty much anywhere, but I was feeling “the urge.” You know, the “cheat” urge. 😛 I did good, though! And Angie had assured me going in that they had some good low carb options on the menu.
First, I’ll show you what I did NOT eat:
That’s the first thing you see when you walk up to the counter to order, and I have to admit it was quite distracting -LOL. Ack! I really had to focus on the section of the menu where I found low carb foods…
Like I’ve said before, it’s all about making that decision – that conscious choice – each and every time. I decided to order the Anaheim Scrambler: “Eggs scrambled with crisp applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, green onions, and cheddar cheese, topped with avocado. Served with oven-roasted breakfast potatoes and harvest toast.”
According to the nutrition info on their website, the Anaheim Scrambler is 7 net carbs – without the potato & toast sides, of course. I asked for fruit & cream cheese as a side replacement, and requested berries only. Berries are not considered fruit by the way, and are fine to eat on the low carb diet.
I had a Diet Coke to drink, and you’ll notice the Mayonnaise there – I drizzled that over the egg scramble. 😀 Absolutely delicious!! The strawberries and cream cheese I ate for “dessert,” which combined makes for a really nice sweet treat – very much like cheesecake!
The Corner Bakery Cafe is a fabulous little place. And given I was still able to eat low carb, bakery and all, I’ll definitely eat again there in the future. 😉 The food was amazing. Ask Angie – I was totally in love with my breakfast and scarfed it down like I hadn’t seen real food in days. LOL. Yum! Highly recommended…
Even though I walked in feeling “tempted” I ended up being VERY happy with my meal choice. Here’s a better photo of the Anaheim Scrambler too – it was SO good:

OK, that baked goods food case would have been hard to walk by! Anyhow, you did a great job Lynn by keeping it low carb and I will have to try to make that scramble sometime this week. You are a great inspiration!

Thank you! I was highly motivated to skip the “carb display” knowing I was going to weigh in when I got home from my trip, lol. And it worked… I came home from an event full of catering and restaurant outings… weighing less! π
The scramble was REALLY good. Especially with Mayo drizzled over the top. I’m making it a point to eat plenty of ‘good fats’ as I found eating ‘low fat’ really stalls my weight loss. I wouldn’t have thought to have avocado with my eggs, but it really *made* the dish!

WOW! That breakfast looks great, Lynn. I didn’t know about adding cream cheese to strawberries (who knew?) and the loaded scrambler is a winner too.

LOL, it’s *much* better than what I ate the last time you and I met up at Starbucks and then for lunch afterward – when I was on my carb splurge, haha. Ack!
I love cream cheese and fresh strawberries OR cream cheese with sugar free jelly/preserves. It’s such a nice little sweet treat, and like I said… it reminds me of cheesecake! π
