Travel and Exercise
So excited Lynn invited me to guest blog here on Traveling Low Carb. Lynn and I travel a lot together for business and I’m always nudging her to hit up the hotel gyms with me for a quick travel workout.
You should see our hotel workout on video from a visit to the Marriott Century Center hotel gym in Atlanta.
We have a few more trips booked this year and I’m looking into bringing some fitness accessories for us to use in our room so we don’t have to wake up early and hit the gym every day. We’ll be traveling to New York City soon and will most likely be walking for fitness on that trip. I always like to check out hotel gyms so it’s inevitable that I’ll end up using it at least once.
But I’m already planning our fitness options for the other trips! We’ll need a workout packing list so we are prepared for our upcoming travel workouts.
What To Pack
- Shoes (running, cross trainers, Vibrams, etc.)
- Sports Bra
- Workout clothes (at least 2 pair depending on length of stay)
- Swimsuit
- Water bottle (I like to pack an empty water bottle to keep filled for workouts and conferences)
- Resistance bands
- Heart rate monitor/strap
- iPad/laptop computer for workout videos
- iPod and headphones
Travel Workout Options
Here is a list of various workouts you can do while traveling. They don’t all have to be hour long workouts. If you only have 20 minutes to do something, it’s better than nothing! Try these workouts on your next business trip or vacation.
- Utilize hotel gym for cardio and weights
- Swimming
- Walking
- DVD workout in room
- You can also do your own workout of jumping jacks, jogging in place, crunches, push ups, squats, etc.
- Walk the stairs in the hotel (always be cautious of course and never walk alone)
You won’t always feel like waking up and hitting up the hotel gym so having something to do in your room is a good option.
If you are on a beach vacation, you can always walk/jog on the beach or do fun resort activities like snorkeling. Another option is to look for a race in the town you’ll be staying in. My husband and I walked a half marathon in Jamaica a few years ago and it was a blast. You can always find something to keep you active while traveling. And don’t forget to throw in some airplane exercises too!
Lynn and I will mostly be walking for our exercise in New York City but I am going to try to make it to the awesome hotel gym once or twice while there. If we had more time, I would definitely see if I could attend one of the popular fitness centers in NYC but we are not going to have any extra time to do anything like that. A nice walk in Central Park would be nice too.
So as you can see, you can find many ways to exercise while traveling. Be sure to keep up with Lynn’s blog here at Traveling Low Carb and my healthy weight loss blog for updates on our travel workouts. We’ll post to Twitter and Facebook too so be sure to follow us.
