My son has decided to stay “home” for Thanksgiving, and home for him is now near Charlotte, NC. My daughter and I decided to get out of town for Thanksgiving and have a little fun. 😀
I’ve always enjoyed traveling with the kids over the holidays. My favorite was our trip to Vegas almost two years ago. I took them there for Christmas, to see the Blue Man show on Christmas Eve. We also rode roller coasters, did thrill rides, got caricature paintings, and just had an all-around awesome time!
I travel a lot, but it’s usually for business or alone – so traveling with my kids is a real treat. And I really enjoy doing something non-traditional for the holidays.
Over the long Thanksgiving weekend, Annie decided she’d like to go hang out in Chattanooga. That’s just over the mountain from us here in Tennessee, so it’s only about a 90 minute drive. It’s a fun little getaway, and my favorite spot is the downtown area near the river and the Tennessee Aquarium.
There’s an IMAX 3D Theatre, the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Blue Moon Cruises down the Tennessee River, the big Pedestrian Bridge that crosses the river – and just tons to see and do. And of course great food for several blocks! There’s a nice Hilton and Marriott right there downtown, so you can walk to just about anything.
Chattanooga is also home to one of my favorite little sushi bars, Sekisui. I just discovered they are listed on Restaurant.com, so I can get $25 gift certificates for only $2 this week. My daughter will love that! While I no longer eat sushi (or even LIKE it – which is weird), my daughter still enjoys it and I can always order grilled salmon or something.
I also found “Dinner In The Diner” on Restaurant.com, which sounds like fun: “All the romance of days gone by can be enjoyed aboard our elegant dining car where our on-board chef prepares a special dinner for you.”
I can be a real creature of habit, and one of the things I love about using Restaurant.com is that it forces me out of my comfort zone – and helps me find cool new places to try while I’m traveling.
Restaurant hopping is FUN! 😀
Anyway, we’re still plotting out the details of our trip – but if I know my daughter she’ll have me on an evening horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Chattanooga at least once – LOL. She’s much more adventures than I am. She likes to try EVERYTHING. Which makes her a really fun travel buddy. 😉
What about you – are you traveling for the holidays this year or sticking close to home??

Thanks so much for your email diary–my husband and I are doing low carb and it has been helpful. Also reminds us that other folks have off days–last night we went out for my birthday and blew it with desert–too bad it is so close to the temptations of Thanksgiving! My first Quest bar order came in and yes, they are good.
Thanks again,
Cath

Traveling this week to see Kev’s dad in St. Louis (he’s in a nursing home) and then on to Indiana to spend time with my family. It’s a very short trip but always fun. We’ll see them at Christmas so it helps me deal with this short trip OK. LOL
Have fun on your trip!

Sounds like a great time and a nice way to spend the holiday. Enjoy! π And thanks, we are really looking forward to heading down tomorrow. We’ll be having Thanksgiving Dinner on the pier and then a little tour down Tennessee River on the Southern Belle. Friday night is riverside holiday light-up. Should be fun! π
