Lynn Terry, host of the Official Low Carb Challenge and Low Carb Classes, was featured in Womanโs World Magazine (August 2017) on Page 20.
ย
I mentioned in my 3 Day Low Carb Food Diary post back in July that I would be in Womanโs World Magazine this month. Did you get a chance to see it? If not, flip through a copy at the store โ Iโm on page 20! ๐
ย
The magazine article is specifically about โFast Food Atkinsโ or eating low carb fast food on the go.
While I eat tons of healthy โreal foodโ low carb meals which you see in my Daily Food Diaries here, I do love that you can easily stay on track practically anywhere โ including:
โ and anytime youโre on the go!
Of course, I also catch a lot of slack for that. ๐ ๐ lolโฆ
We had a good discussion about eating low carb at McDonaldโs on Facebook recently, following some negative comments about that on Instagram.
Note: When you order the โround fried eggsโ they are real eggs, cracked on site. The sausage patties are not the best option in the world, and they are 1 carb each, but it is a quick & easy low carb meal when youโre on the road.
In the discussion I shared what you should know about eating low carb fast food.
Tip: Know what youโre eating.
McDonaldโs provides a Nutrition Calculator right on their website: McDonaldโs Nutrition Calculator. My 3 sausage patties & 3 fried eggs was 790 calories and 4 carbs. Not 2000 calories like someone fussed.:)
Is it the healthiest food you can eat? Nah. But itโs not a quarter pounder with fries & a milkshake either! ๐ And itโs low carb and within my macros โ and keeps me fed when Iโm on the road or on the go.
Your choices are your preference, and mine are mine.
My main tip here is: KNOW WHAT YOUโRE EATING.
For example, if you use the nutrition calculator youโll KNOW that the ranch dressing at McDonaldโs has TEN net carbs โ and is not a good low carb choice.
Every major fast food & restaurant chain publishes their nutrition facts online, and many have nutrition calculators. Make good use of them! ๐
Hardeeโs and Carlโs Jr fast food chains even have Seedrah.com (Hardeeโs spelled backwards, โthe other sideโ of Hardeeโs) for example.
I talked a lot about this in my Low Carb Class on โMyFitnessPal, Macros & Meal Tracking Made Easy!โ You should always look up your meal choices before you eat them, make them, or order them. ๐ And ideally: log it before you eat it! Or at least log as you go โ so you can easily stay within your ideal LCHF macros.
Anyway, this was my response to the โfood snobsโโฆ ๐ lol

This is what the front cover of this issue of the Womanโs World Magazine looks like, in case youโre looking for it while youโre out & about this week:
Itโs VERY misleading, lol
That is not me on the front cover of course, and I do NOT eat hamburger buns. ๐ Unless they are Low Carb Hamburger Buns, which are just fine!
But I always eat my burgers in a lettuce wrap:
People ask me all the time if I miss breadโฆ
I donโt. But I do still enjoy bread, even on a low carb diet!
I love the low carb sliced bread (ONLY from ONE company โ the rest are no good!) and I also make easy low carb bread recipes at home including shortbread cookies and garlic cheese bread from almond meal.
Plus my personal favorite: Spinach Biscuits. ๐
But for the most part, I eat very simple and โreal foodโ low carb meals. Generally 3-5 ingredients max, even when Iโm eating out or having take-out.
ย
My health is important to me, and I do strive to make the healthiest choices no matter where I am or what Iโm doing โ whether Iโm running errands, traveling, on vacation or just eating low carb at home alone.
That said, Iโm all for whatever it takes to stay on track!
That includes enjoying low carb ice cream (instead of an all out sugar binge on the high carb stuff!), getting a lettuce wrapped burger or sausage & eggs from a drive-thru instead of high carb options, and finding low carb replacements for foods I like โ like these delicious low carb cakes.
Itโs those options that make it EASY to stay on track! ๐
All you have to do is browse through a few of my food diaries here to see that I eat simple & clean most of the time. But this is โreal lifeโ and life is busy and fullโฆ and sometimes you just WANT a cupcake or a burger or a chocolate bar.
Fortunatelyโฆ you can do that, with no guilt!;)
Thatโs one of the things I love about getting the Monthly Keto Krate Box, by the way. All of the products are guaranteed to be under 5 net carbs, to be Gluten Free, and to contain NO malitol. They are usually premium specialty products like organic foods and higher quality food products โ which helps me mix things up and keep things interesting, and never get bored eating low carb. ๐
Did you see the magazine article?
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the article, and on dining out or eating low carb fast food. Do you find it pretty easy to โstay low carbโ no matter where you are, or do you have any questions about sticking to low carb choices on the go?
Leave a comment & letโs chat.;)

I am so happy and excited for you! Congratulations on being recognized for all of your hard work.
Thank you, Shelley! ๐
While moving this summer with two young children and the craziness of getting settled in a new home and new job while also still trying to enjoy our summer, being able to eat low carb fast food saved me. While doing other diets to lose weight in the past, when life got crazy, the diet failed. With this way of eating, success can still be had in the craziness of life. Thank you for sharing your journey with so many.
Thatโs exactly what I love about it too, Stephanie. It doesnโt matter where you are, what youโre doing, what crazy situation or circumstance you find yourself in โ you can easily eat low carb. ๐ I love that!
Thatโs what makes it sustainable as a lifestyle choice, which allows you to stay healthy and keep the weight off โ compared to โdiets.โ
I picked up a copy of the magazineโฆcause itโs got my favorite low carb blogger in it. The reason you are my favorite is because you are so PRACTICAL. I always check menus online before going somewhere new to eat. I am a little confused about the article stating 40 carbs a day for weight loss. Really? Iโm in a loonng stall. Maybe I should increase my carbs from 20 to 40 ??? Keep up the great work, Lynn! Very proud of you being featured in the mag. I donโt know how you do it all, but Iโm sure glad you do.
Thank you, Gaye. ๐ The article is based on Atkins phases. I stay on a ketogenic low carb diet, which is basically โPhase Oneโ of Atkins: 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum.
I go through long โstallsโ as well, with only slight fluctuations. Thatโs actually normal further into your weight loss journey, and *especially* if youโre within 20โish pounds of a goal weight.
Those last 10-20 pounds are the MOST challenging. ๐
My advice: Try the 3IMAX method for 2 weeks: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/6064/3-ingredients-rule/ Cut out any bars, shakes & processed foods and go super simple with 3 ingredients max per plate โ all real/whole foods and very simplified. It works like a charm!
Thank you so much for that advice and the link. I will definitely give it a try. And you are right โ I am within 17 lbs of my goal. Iโve lost 65 lbs since July of 2016.
Wow, Gaye โ thatโs amazing! Congrats, and KUDOS for taking control of your health and sticking it out with your weight loss goals over the past year. ๐ Way to go!!
And yes, that last ~20 pounds is tough. Iโm in the dreaded STUBBORN ~10 pound range myself, so I totally get it. Just keep eating for your health, keep it as simple as you can, and try that 3IMAX method to speed things up a little. ๐
p.s. If you want to โlean upโ a little, and super quick, while youโre eating low carbโฆ add some body weight muscle building into the mix.
Easy things you can do quickly at home like Tricep Dips, crunches, and other things that will โadd muscle weightโ but make you LOOK leaner and more healthy.
Those smaller muscles (you know, the ones that show: arms, calves, etc) are EASY to tone FAST. ๐
We have a celeb in our midst!! ๐ I donโt get the magazine, but me Kindle will accommodate me on this one! ๐ And for the food snobsโฆโSuccess is the best revenge!โ You look just terrific, and represent just what we keto-ers are about. Slow and steady. Good going, girl!
Thank you, Kathy. ๐ You always make me smile!!
Well I was ready to switch things up out of frustration. One day last week I stepped on the scale and was up two pounds. I had been eating really well and thought I should be down and then it was up. So today it was make or break and I was down four. Woo hoo. This is a lot for me because I lose one pound a week at most. On another note tying into your fast food articleโฆ I had Wendyโs yesterday. Two jr bacon cheeseburgers with extra lettuce. I took the bun off of course. These were delicious. So I will keep on keeping on.
Hi Amy! You know those little minor fluctuations throughout the week(s) are totally normal. ๐ Just keep in mind the body is going through all sorts of things at any given time. Sometimes related to sleep or stress, sometimes to certain foods (or food combinations) that take longer to digest, hormone cycles, you name it!
Iโm so glad you stuck it out! Sounds like it was well worth it. ๐
Congratulations, Lynn! ๐
We donโt have Womanโs World in the UK, but having attended your class, I am sure that your article will inspire many people to at least start thinking about their food choices. What is good about low carb is that you donโt need to starve โ like with most diets, so living a low carb lifestyle should not be an issue, especially considering multiple health benefits that come with weight loss. Having started with it, I donโt see myself ever going back. May your success grow, as well as the number of people who are as inspired by you as I am!
Thank you so much, Galina! I didnโt actually write the article, and itโs more about Atkins than anything, but they did include a great feature photo and a few quotes from me. All things youโve heard here of course. ๐
I agree about not having to go hungry, which is one of the things I LOVE about the low carb lifestyle as a means of losing weight, maintaining your weight loss, and just getting healthier in general. That and the fact that itโs so EASY and also easily sustainable long term. ๐
Great article!! Iโm glad you were able to highlight WOE. Thank you for all your tips!! Looking forward to the 90 day challenge in September.
Thank you, Susan! Iโm really looking forward to it as well. ๐ Hereโs to looking GREAT and feeling amazing for the upcoming holidays! *cheers*
Youโre an inspiration and I enjoyed the article, but the real question is, where did you get your top? It looks beautiful on you!!
lol Kelli! Thank you ๐ ๐ I bought it online ages ago, from an odd store. It turns out everything was in Asian sizes (super tiny, lol) so it took me forever to finally fit into that beautiful bright red wrap blouse! ๐ And it was one of only a few pieces I ordered I could ever wear (lesson learned!). But it was worth the wait. ๐ Itโs soft and silky and comfortableโฆ and I love the color!
Thatโs why I stick with stores Iโm familiar with now, for all the online shopping I do, that have very consistent sizing. ๐ But thank you again! My photographer chose it. She was amazing to work with.
Itโs definitely your color!
I left a comment on the 90 Day Challenge Site, but Iโll ask you here. My husband picked me up the magazine, and congratulations on being featured. The article seemed to be mostly about Atkins and not Keto. About staying under 40 carbs and not 20, then another woman talked about staying under 30. So my question was, are we on Atkins or Keto. They are different plans.
Hi Janet ๐ Yes, the article was about Atkins. What I do is a ketogenic low carb diet, which is very low carb, high fat, moderate protein. Or: 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum, 25% protein max.
That is the same as Atkins Phase One.
The only real difference between Atkins and Keto is the other phases of Atkins, which phase up into higher carb amounts as you mentioned.
Once you are in maintenance, meaning you reached your healthiest weight โ and your healthiest state overall โ I should think itโs fine to add in healthy carbs. Meaning higher carb vegetables and perhaps lower sugar fruits, in moderation of course.
Most people could go to more of a โPaleoโ style way of eating at that point and easily maintain their weight โ although perhaps NOT maintain a state of ketosis.
I have not reached my goal weight yet, so I canโt say for certain what it will take to maintain it, but thatโs something we all have to figure out. Obviously it wonโt be going back to the way we ate before going low carb. ๐ lol
There are so many health benefits to a ketogenic diet, so for some it is definitely a way of life โ to control things like seizures, inflammation & chronic pain, fibromyalgia symptoms, etc.
But to answer your question, the 90 Day Challenge is definitely considered a โketoโ low carb diet. With the goal being to get and stay in ketosis (fat burning mode).
Congratulations! That is super cool to be included in Womenโs World magazine.
I use to buy the magazine all the time, but havenโt for a bit.
Yesterday, when shopping, I looked at the cover of the magazine and it wasnโt this one. I will look again this week. Hope I did not miss it.
The picture you included here in your blog post, of you under the water fall, saying you eat McDonalds, is perfect!
Eating low carb works best for me as well. I have lost weight in the past following low carb, and I am gearing up to start again on Sept 1st.
Thank you, Darlene ๐ And lol at that picture!! haha
The issue is dated August 28th if that helps.
Iโm glad youโre joining us for the Fall Challenge! Iโm aiming to finally get to my โideal weightโ (Iโm still curious what that is, lol) and get in amazing shape, so Iโm going to challenge myself more than ever this go round. ๐
Of course I continue to stay on track even between challenges, so stay tuned here for ideas & inspiration as you get ready for the official challenge to begin. And feel free to join me and get a head start! ๐
I Lynn,
I am starting to follow Atkins/Keto.
I want to know what do you drink?
Thanks for all you do
