If you’re participating in the 2017 Low Carb Challenge (feel free to join in anytime!) we do weigh-ins every Monday. Here’s the Week Four Weigh In for the Facebook group, or you can weigh in here by leaving a comment below on this post.
I’ve been sick for over a week with a nasty flu. I’m feeling better, but still not 100%. I’m off to see my doctor this morning, but to be honest I just feel like staying in bed. 😛
I’ve been keeping with my low carb goals and macros, and fortunately I’ve had friends in and out this past week to help me out with low carb meals.
I was surprised to see my weight drop this week given how much cold medicine I’ve been taking. I don’t usually lose weight when I’m sick. But I’m at a new all time low weight: 134.2 pounds.
My goal this year is to tone up and add muscle weight. Being lean is nice. Being “skinny fat” is NOT. 😛 lol… Ugh.
I tried two new things this week. One was the Low Carb Pasta, and it was surprisingly good. I was really impressed, as was my friend Caroline who happens to be an executive chef & caterer. She made a fabulous low pasta dish with italian sausage, roasted broccoli & garlic cloves and just a bit of organic marinara.
If you got the January Keto Krate there was a low carb recipe for “Chorizo & Cheddar Cheese Balls” using the Braaitime Droewors Chorizo and the Pork Clouds that came in that box.
I made the recipe because I probably wouldn’t have eaten those two things otherwise. The recipe turned out really good! And super low carb (1 carb per 3 cheese balls). 🙂
I uploaded most of my low carb meals from the last week into a Facebook album. You don’t have to be on Facebook to view them – they’re public. 🙂
How are things going for you?
How are you doing with your low carb meals & macro tracking? Any questions or struggles? I would love to hear how your week is going and what you’re eating!
Don’t forget to weigh in below, or in the group…
Leave a comment & let’s talk. 🙂

Good morning Lynn,
I hope you feel better soon. I’ve been lucky to not get sick considering how many people I’ve been around that have been.
I finally ordered Carbquik and some low carb bread. I had a tuna fish sandwich yesterday!
It was my first sandwich since last June! It was just a sandwich however. I think next time I have 2 pieces of bread it will be with dippy eggs. I’ll be making a waffle soon. I had one when I visited my daughter in Texas. It was so good.
I have now maintained goal weight since mid November. I’ve been trying different things out to see how it affects my weight.
Hope to talk to you soon so I can update you on progress in other areas of my life.
God Bless you Lynn,
Ray
Lynn Terry says
Thank you, Ray – it was good to catch up with you for a second the other day. I’m glad you’re maintaining your weight loss easily!
Experimenting with new low carb foods is great. π I love the Low Carb Everything Bagels & Everything Sliced Bread I shared here: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/5564/low-carb-bagel-ingredients/ Those two are my favorite. Yum!
Kathy Enzor says
I have only been doing the challenge on week today. I rather not weigh in until next Monday. I don’t want to be discouraged. I am doing good, I think. But tell me about Macros. Thanks…..kfe
Lynn Terry says
Hi Kathy π How’s it going?? This is a simple explanation & illustration of macros for a low carb diet: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/7006/macronutrients/ Let me know if that raises any questions!
Karin says
185! Although I’ve been following I have not directly participated in this group. I struggle every week. Weekend to be precise. I love my wine and my husband brews beer. The older I get the harder all of this is. One thing I think Ive discovered is my joints hurt when I eat processed flour such as a hotdog bun or pizza.
Lynn Terry says
I’m glad you checked in, Karin. π The reason your joints DON’T hurt when you eat low carb is because of the science behind ketosis. Carbs promote inflammation in the body. Since I went low carb (ketogenic) I am out of chronic pain FINALLY and back to a FUN active lifestyle. π
Elina says
Can you post your macros for this week please.
Elina says
I mean for the week when you lost this pound even being sick
Lynn Terry says
Hi Elina, sorry for not posting my MFP diaries those weeks. I was dying. π I’m still seriously sick and struggling to get back to work. But I stuck to my usual: 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum. Pretty much the same as always, in my archive of food diaries here. π
Sherry Smith says
Good morning, I did not post last week because I had 24 hour carb party and gained 4 lbs. Yes 4 lbshowever the next day I was back at it, this week I was down 4.4 lbs, which was good but only .4 from 2 weeks ago, so anyway, no big deal, I did it but those cold ones sure we’re good, lol. I am still on a journey for exercise that I love, I know you guys have ideas, would love to hear them. Thanks Lynn have a great week
Sherry
Lynn Terry says
The cold ones? π For beer I drink Michelob Ultra. It’s only 2.6 carbs per 12oz bottle, and doesn’t knock me out of ketosis. I also love rum & diet coke! That’s zero carbs. You might notice your weight loss stalls, but that’s just because alcohol takes longer to metabolize, and your body has to burn alcohol before food for some crazy reason.
Anyway, glad to hear you got right back on track. That’s always the key!
Terry LW says
213! Lynn you are such an inspiration! Thank you for all that you do to help us on this journey. I have osteoarthritis in both knees, 58 years old, need knee replacements. I WILL NOT undergo this surgery until I have some weight off. My weight loss begins NOW!!!
Breakfast: Triple Zero Oikos Greek Yogurt (Net 8 carbs, 2 T walnuts) 3 strips of bacon, coffee
Terry LW
Lynn Terry says
That’s SMART Terry. π You’ll be shocked at how much better your knees feel if you eat super low carb. Because carbs promote inflammation in the body. I was in chronic pain before I went ketogenic (20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum).
Are you tracking? If not, start tracking and make sure you’re doing the 20/70 and watch how quickly you FEEL better! I’m finally living an active lifestyle again. π
Sherry Smith says
Lynn, does erythritol and stevia count as carbs or would you deduct it like fiber to get net carbs?
Lynn Terry says
Hi Sherry,
You just have to read the label. If a product contains either of those, it probably has “sugar alcohol” (or one of those two things) listed on the nutrition facts. You would subtract that along with the fiber to get net carbs.
Tishana says
Hi, All!
I’m holding steady at 198.8 after a battle with chicken pot pie this weekend. Whatever I lost, i must have gained back. Eh… Forgiving myself and moving forward…
Kudos to everyone on their progress this week, whether you lost, some gained some, or remained steady, Yay for the challenge!
Lynn Terry says
Good for you, Tishana! “forgiving myself and moving forward” – that’s the KEY. So many people get totally discouraged and just throw in the towel. KUDOS π
Beulah Hartge says
Current weight 149, 4 pounds from my first goal. Hope that you are feeling better.
Lynn Terry says
Thank you Beulah π And congrats for getting so close to your goal!!
Mary says
I have lost 10lbs sine the 20th. Keeping it simple meals and looking for other ways of cooking and eating on the low carb.

Congrats on your weight loss. Simple is GOOD! *cheers*
Marri says
My weight is holding steady at 133…It has been 3 MONTHS since I’ve lost anything! Just 8 more pounds and I’ll go to maintenance but WOW this is tough at 50! Started this woe just over a year ago and it fits me.
Lynn Terry says
The last 10 pounds is the most challenging…
How are you tracking? Happy to help!
Jackie says
Lynn,
I am truly struggling. I do great all day while out at work but when I get home I almost always fall off my low carb wagon. It isn’t that my family doesn’t support me, my husband does most of the cooking and will tweak any meal to be low carb for me and generally eat it the same way to support me. My three boys are supportive but we don’t have them do low carb, just well rounded meals as they are still growing. I know its my mind over matter but I just can’t seem to get a grip. I feel like I have an addiction or something like it is impossible to say no to carb loaded food. I feel trapped and I’m miserable but clearly not miserable enough to take control. Any advice?
Lynn Terry says
Hi Jackie π
If you just stick to it for ONE WEEK, or even just FIVE little days… you’ll find you have hardly any appetite and your cravings totally disappear. It’s like magic! There is a science to the way the low carb diet works, putting your body in ketosis, which just makes it EASY to stick to after that.
Can you commit to 5 days? If so, you’ll be home free. π
Elina says
Its very helpful when you post macros. It looks that when I eat over 1300-1400 kkal even with carbs under 20 and fat at least 70% I always gain weight. I am tired of struggling to not exceed 1200 kkal. I do eat no more than 20 carbs and at least 70% of total kkal of good fats, but I cannot lose anything. I am over 50 and need to lose about 10 pounds only. So far after 2 months I gained about 4 – 5 pounds. I do exercise (weekly: 4 hard barre classes + 2 zumba classes) + every day walk 4 miles with dogs). All hormones tests look good. Any advice?
Lynn Terry says
What are you using to track your meals, Elina?
I don’t have to count calories, as you’ve seen from my archive of food diaries here. But I will say that the last 10 pounds IS the most challenging. Heck, the last TWENTY, lol.
Try going super simple: real food only, nothing processed, no bars or shakes, cut out nuts and cheese and cream cheese, and no complicated recipes, just meat & greens + healthy fats – and 3 or 4 ingredients max per plate. That usually does the trick!
Sherry Smith says
Has anyone heard from Lynn? I do not have Facebook. I know she was sick, just concerned.
Becky says
Sherry I was wondering the same. It’s not like Lynn to not post.
Lynn I hope all is well. Well wishes coming your way.
Sherry Smith says
Has she posted on Facebook? Anyone???
Ray says
I’m sure she will get to it what she has time.
Brenda says
She hasn’t been on Instagram either!
Lynn Terry says
Thank you all for asking – and checking in. π
I’m not well.
I was diagnosed with bronchitis, bordering on pneumonia. I’m on an antibiotic, but still battling the second wave of flu that did me in – too. On top of that I’ve had an exceptional amount of stress in my life to deal with, which is exhausting – on top of exhaustion.
I’ve been resting a lot. I’ll try to get a new post out (and the weigh in for this week!) in the next 24 hours. Thank you for your love and understanding. π
Michelle says
Good to hear from you. I too was beginning to get worried about you. Hope you feel better soon. Prayers coming your way.
Lynn Terry says
Thank you so much. π I’m still sick, and miserable, and resting A LOT. I’m just now starting to try to get back to work and get caught up. I miss you all! *hugs*
