Join us for the Fall 2016 Low Carb Challenge!
I’ve been eating low carb consistently for something like 150 straight days now.
I had one off plan meal a few months ago, and threw myself out of ketosis a few times here and there, but there’s been no carb cycling or cheat days.
The results are amazing! I’ve been eating low carb for more than 5 years now, but you know how it goes – you usually go off plan at least once a month if not once a week, right? Most of us do.
That’s exactly what kept me STUCK for so long though, losing and gaining the same 20 pounds over and over and over (and over!).
The results of my consistency have been shocking.
I’m leaner than I’ve been since my 20’s! I’m 43 years old now. 🙂 I’ll share a picture with you that I took yesterday. It even shocks ME to see myself this lean! haha
Every single bite of food I’ve eaten over the last 150+ days is right here in my daily low carb food diaries. I share them with you to give you EASY low carb ideas, and to show you how I track them. Speaking of, here’s what I ate yesterday…
Friday’s Low Carb Meals
I had my favorite healthy breakfast: 1/2 cup #pecans, 1/4 cup Daisy brand cottage cheese, 4 small diced strawberries & 17.5 grams of hand-picked blueberries. (6 net carbs and 85% healthy fat)
After breakfast I went for a walk with my great dane (Slim) and got in a FAST mile and a half. He was wiped out after the first mile, but I got in a great sweat at least. 🙂
Around mid-morning I decided to finish the LAST low carb peanut butter pecan brownie. I warmed it up in the microwave and it was ooey gooey delicious!!:)
The brownie mix is currently out of stock (boo!). You can get notified by Amazon when they’re back in stock, or you can pre-order now on her website:
Use my get 10% off refer-a-friend link so you get the discount. I ordered her chocolate chip cookie mix and just got it, so stay tuned to find out how they turn out!
For lunch I heated up the veggies I made the day before (squash, broccoli & cauliflower in alfredo broth), and had those with smoked sausage.
I fried the sausages in a dab of Guy’s Sugar Free BBQ Sauce. That was delicious!
Here’s the package – it’s Johnsonville Kielbasa. I love this one because it comes in two individually sealed portions and has no fillers. Plus it tastes SO good.
That was a really late lunch since I had the high calorie brownie earlier.
For “dinner” (or when I got hungry before bed) I ate some Low Carb Trail Mix that Joe made and brought over. Since we had so many berries from picking this season, I wanted to try them dried in a nut mix. It turns out he owns a dehydrator!:)
He brought me a bag with: almonds, walnuts, pecans, dried strawberries & blueberries. Yum! 🙂 Of course I had to dump it all out, separate everything and weigh each food, then mix it all back up real pretty -so I could track the macros, lol.
If you’re curious it came to 5 net carbs and 83% healthy fat. 🙂
Here’s My MyFitnessPal Diary for Friday:
Macronutrients: Simple Explanation Of Low Carb Macros
How To Get A Net Carbs Column in MyFitnessPal
Calories: 1516
Net Carbs: 29
Total Carbs: 52
Protein: 41 Grams
81% Fat, 11% Protein
Exercise: Brisk Walk/Run (1.5 Miles)
Fitbit Steps: 5,092
Water: 72 ounces
My carb count (29 net carbs) came out a bit high yesterday. I like to stay at 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum.
I keep it THAT simple and ignore all the other numbers (goals, grams, calories, etc). I tend to be a little “looser” with it some days though, like yesterday. But even then I keep it very low carb with good food choices.
That brownie for example is chock full of MCT Grade coconut oil, pecans, peanut butter, etc. All kinds of healthy stuff!
Deana and I were joking about going on “the brownie diet” because I lost weight eating that whole pan of brownies -lol. She’s the owner of Good Dee’s Sugar Free Mixes and has a brand new baby, so she’s losing her baby weight right now too.
My “baby” is turning 20 in a few weeks… 😯 haha – What took ME so long?!
Here’s the picture I took yesterday…
Some days I want to stuff my face with junk food and plump back up where I’m comfortable. Which is always followed by the reminder that I was NOT comfortable being “plump” (overweight, fat) – then I shake my head at myself and carry on with my low carb life, lol.
What’s on your mind is 10x more important than what’s in your mouth, I’ve discovered. I STILL have to brush off the “fat thoughts” all the time.
Changing your body is the easy part. Changing your thinking and your routine – that’s where the real challenge is. It’s SO worth it though!!
Last night I was watching the History channel and feeling tired, and the thought of Dairy Queen crossed my mind (for a few long seconds in s l o w m o t i o n, lol).
I just pulled the covers over my head and went to sleep. 😛
I have my moments too, and my own struggles. This is real life. I’m not perfect and I’ve really had a tough time getting my head straight along the way. That’s where I started seeing REAL success, and a real difference in my body though: by ignoring the thoughts, staying consistent, powering through – and staying on track.
What about you – How’s your weekend going?
It’s day 20 of the 90 Day Challenge. How are you doing with your low carb meals & macro tracking? Any questions or struggles? I would love to hear your results so far.
Leave a comment and let’s talk!

You are so inspiring. I started low carb on August 1st and am down 8 lbs so far. Prior to august 1st I was on low calorie low fat since April and have now lost a total of 56 lbs. I started at 257 and today am 201.8. I know that’s a lot in a short time. I’m so focused and will keep going and going!
Thank you, Tracie! And wow – 8 pounds in just 19 full days, that’s awesome. π π Way to go!! You are really slimming down FAST. Kudos on your motivation!!
Such a great post today – addressing exactly what I struggle with too! I’ve joined the challenge one week ago and I’ve lost 2.6 lbs. I don’t have a ton to lose (25lbs), so it seems to come off slow. My problem has always been not seeing results fast enough, so I give up and gain more! The message of consistency and patience really speaks to me. Gotta get some brownie mix too! Thank you!!!
2.6 pounds in ONE week is great weight loss!! π I understand how you feel though. I lose super slow, especially since my hysterectomy. But I *am* losing, instead of gaining (which I do super fast, lol).
I had to just power through those thoughts. I had to decide NOT to gain instead of having to lose at some imagined rate – so just eating to NOT gain was a shift in mindset through the tough weeks.
Getting off the roller coaster is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. That and getting those brownies. π lol… They are SO great!
Hello! What workout regimen (i.e. What type/How long/how many days per week) are you doing? Exercise is my biggest challenge right now, but I know it’s necessary. You look great!!
Hi DeAnna – thank you! π I don’t actually have a workout regimen or routine at all. I lost all of my weight JUST eating low carb.
I started exercising about a year ago because I wasn’t happy with how my body looked under the weight I was losing (flabby, out of shape) so I’ve been exercising to tone muscle and GAIN muscle weight.
I try to get out and do something “big” at least once a week – hiking, kayaking, etc. Otherwise I do home workouts or walk my dane, but not consistently or any specific amount/time. I should though. π I keep meaning to make it a DAILY habit, but I haven’t yet…
I’ve been low carbing, for a year and a half. Weight loss stalled for the last several months. This blog has been a boost. I resisted joining a challenge since I don’t like to write down my food intake. I joined this one and what an eye opener. Now I log in my food before I eat it. When I see the carb count, I can take some off my plate(and off the journal) . I’m cutting the mindless eating this way. Your tips have really helped, especially perseverance. Also appetite has reduced, wow, never thought that would happen. Lost 3 pounds so far and gained a little muscle. Also, I use this challenge as an excuse not to eat carbs. I have survived a family reunion (in Louisiana) by saying” I just can’t eat that rice, I’m in a low carb challenge. “
I’m so glad to hear that, Clarise! π I find logging / tracking to be great for accountability, and like you I log my meals/snacks before I eat them. That does help a lot. Plus it helps you see your fat/protein ratios – which can really help you lose weight faster. π
Kudos on joining the challenge ANYway, and seeing such great results already. I love your resolve and motivation!!
That nut and dried berry combo looks so delicious. What a clever idea to dehydrate the berries. Remember when we talked about how qe missed the dried cranberries in our salads. We could replace that with other dried berries. Yum
How sweet of Joe to bring that for you!
I cannot wait to order the low carb granola
the brownie mix and lc cookie mix from Dees
i could go on the brownie diet with you too. Haha π but i sure would miss your famous low carb cereal. π
Do you have the link to your lc cookie recipe in the meantime?
I have all the ingredients here to make them i think…..even the sf torani vanilla syrup. I got sf chocolate chips too.
You really look FAB Lyn……you really ARE an inspiration. π
Thank you Gina!! Here’s the link to that recipe for the low carb cookies: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/1712/low-carb-cookie-recipe/ I don’t make them very sweet myself, so definitely sweeten to taste.
And yes, it was our conversation about the dried cranberries that made me think of doing it with blueberries! π It’s a PERFECT low carb replacement!!
I may just have to invest in a food dehydrator. Great low carb substitute for the high carb cranberries. π
In the cookie recipe. I wondered if i could use coconut oil instead of butter?
I’m not sure, Gina – I’ve never tried that… It’s not a lot of butter so it would probably work.
And yes, I can’t wait to try dried raspberries next!
This post is exactly what I needed to read. I have lost 25 lbs and have not been this size in 10 years. I have constant struggles with the slow motion thoughts as you put it! I haven’t made it one full week without a small cheat of some sort…I havent had the negative consequence for that behavior until this week. I’m looking forward to being fully committed to making it this week without a cheat!
That’s a great attitude, Tonya. π Take it ONE week at a time, one small goal at a time!
