I hope you had a fabulous holiday week! I’m all smiles today after a wonderful Christmas with BOTH of my kids! 🙂
My children are 19 and 24 years old now, out on their own, and living in opposite directions -lol.
My daughter (19) is super busy with “college life” and her friends there, and lots of travel. As it should be her first year out on her own! She’s happy, having the time of her life, and I’m happy FOR her. 🙂
My son (24) is a little more settled, self employed, but isn’t really “into holidays” – he never has been. So when he wanted to grill out together for Christmas, I was thrilled!
My daughter had big plans with her friends so we were planning to get together over the weekend instead. They’re both beautiful young adults. I’m deeply proud of them, and feel very blessed. 🙂
That’s how it started at least…
I got up on Christmas morning and made sausage & eggs for breakfast.
It was a warm, rainy morning – very odd weather for Christmas Day.
With a high of 74 degrees and non-stop rain forecasted, plus a lot of time in the car, I decided to dress comfortable… and wear my new rain boots. 🙂
I snapped this picture of my boots, and when I looked at it… I was like, “whoah! what is that?!” It’s a leg muscle!! haha – Nice! All of my walking and working out just MIGHT be paying off. 😛 That kinda made my day, lol.
Anyway, I grabbed my umbrella, already had the kids gifts in the car, and headed out for the 2 hours north.
I got to my son’s place just before 3pm, and he made me the most FABULOUS “Keto Christmas Dinner” lol… it was a HUGE thick, juicy one-pound ribeye steak! 🙂
That steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious!!!
I decided to sneak in the kitchen to check out his secret to an amazing steak. I was impressed at what I found!
Fresh thyme, real butter and garlic cloves – plus salt & pepper. That’s it!
I had such a fun time hanging out with my son at his new place, and visiting with his friends there. 🙂 Lots of laughs! I was really missing my daughter though, and it just nagged at me all day. I know she had fun plans for the holiday, and I wanted to respect that – but I just wanted to see her.
I checked the time, considered it for all of about TWO seconds (lol) and hopped in the car to cross the state to surprise her. 🙂
It was a 5-hour drive from my son’s to my daughter’s, on a windy rainy Christmas night. I made it there just in time though – just before midnight in her time zone. 🙂
She was surprised for sure, haha! ~ but very happy to see me. 🙂 We had a fun visit and she enjoyed her gifts, and it was SO worth 11 hours in the car to see BOTH of my children on Christmas Day.
Speaking of 11+ hours of driving, I did get hungry again about an hour before I arrived at her place. I had stopped for a coffee to get through that last piece of the trip, and walked by these big juicy hot dogs:
Yup. I grabbed two of those, and got back on the road. 🙂 I just picked them up with a napkin and ate them “as is” – plain – and kept on driving.
How did I stay awake, and how the HECK did I get that many steps on my FitBit on a road trip?!
I’ve tested my FitBit Charge HR on this several times, and it does NOT “count steps” when I’m driving.
Most of the day I was sitting or driving, but here’s something else I’ve tested: “car dancing” DOES count as steps. LOL.
I spoke to a State Trooper about this by the way, and he assured me it’s perfectly legal… “as long as you keep it between the lines.” 😉
I’m not sure exactly how to explain that one… it would probably require video, lol. You need GREAT music, of course. I chose Group Love: Never Trust A Happy Song (you can sample the album here)… and JAMMED OUT. 😀
It kept me awake, and it made the trip FUN. I had the car on cruise control most of the way, and made it a point to “work some muscles” in the process. 🙂 It’s a good way to stay loosened up when you’re in the car that long too.
And this may just be WHY I love my road trips so much… lol.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday too. 🙂 This was the best Christmas I’ve had in a long time. Easy, laid back, happy, no stress, quality time with both of my beautiful children – it was nice. And SUPER low carb too, of course. That full pound of steak was amazing!!
Best,
