Double Up! Low Carb Money-Saving Tip…

I woke up this morning weighing the same as I did yesterday, which is a first this week. I feel great, though! It’s been so encouraging to see the scales moving down consistently. ;-)

I was actually sick most of the day yesterday. Who knows what that was about. It started with an upset stomach about mid-day and then ended with strong nausea that lasted until I finally gave in and just went to bed. :-| Some little bug, no doubt.

Anyway, a quick tip for you when eating out, or specifically when ordering low carb fast food. I wish I had figured this one out a long time ago! Most of the time you’ll probably grab a sandwich and just ditch the bun. For example, I get Sausage Egg McMuffin’s from McDonalds all the time – and just throw away the McMuffin. And since it’s a lot less food without the bread, if I’m really hungry I’ll order two.

You can actually order “double meat” or double whatever – and it’s A LOT cheaper than ordering two of the same item. For example, yesterday I had a Hardee’s Low Carb Burger (yes, it’s on the menu!) and I simply requested “double meat”:

I was *really* hungry and it was SO good! It’s a lot more food than it looks like in the picture. Each patty is 1/3 pound. And I tossed the tomato, by the way – I meant to order it without.

I’m trying to increase my water intake this week, so I drank 60 ounces of water yesterday. That may not seem like a lot to “water-drinkers” but it’s a new habit for me so I was pretty pleased. :) I also hit the gym with my friend Kim, and did a solid hour of intense cardio.

The nausea hit me hard about an hour after my workout. I thought maybe I hadn’t eaten enough, but I was sick earlier in the day too. I’d had the kids pick me up something when they went out for Mexican (while I was at the gym) so I decided I would try to eat.

I ordered Chicken & Shrimp Fajitas:

I only managed to eat a few bites (meat & sour cream only) and finally just had to go to bed. I felt much better when I woke up this morning. I’m not sure what the deal was with all the nausea and upset tummy yesterday. I got up super early and knocked out some work (mostly accounting, blah! lol) and then went to McD’s for a sausage & egg and had my nails done.

For lunch today I’ll probably finish off the chicken & shrimp fajitas – and then who knows what I’ll get into this weekend. ;-) *cheers*

    If we take the kids to Wendy’s I’ll order a burger “no bun,” and they don’t even look at me funny or anything, they just put it in a salad box for me with all the toppings :) Their patties don’t have the fillers that some places have and is listed on their allergen menu as being gluten/wheat free when served alone. I think Hardees is probably the same way but I haven’t checked their allergen list.

    as I am going to the USA in two weeks and was a bit worried how to eat low carb on vacation, I am very thankful to find out about the various restaurant chains and fast food places you mentioned. Great stuff, keep up the good work ;)

  4. Those chicken & shrimp fajitas look AMAZING!!! That’s the only thing in MEXICAN cuisine I like, Fajitas! :)
