While I was at Zazzy’z Coffee House in Abingdon, Virginia last weekend I saw Chocolove “Fair Trade Organic” Dark Chocolate Bars at the counter.
On the very high recommendation of my friend, I decided to grab one. 😀
In addition to being “pretty” (that’s always a plus, right? lol) I was told they have “love messages” on the inside. How fun is that?? And so of course I flipped one over and took a look at the nutrition facts.
I have never been a huge fan of dark chocolate, but my tastes have changed a lot since going low carb, and I’ve heard several people in the 90 Day Low Carb Challenge mention enjoying dark chocolate as a low carb treat.
Sure enough, there are only 6 Net Carbs per serving:
You’ll notice that a serving is 1/3 of the bar – which is huge. I doubt I could eat even that much in one sitting, given I do good to eat a sugar-free Hershey’s MINI chocolate bar. My craving for sweets has just changed dramatically.
I just unwrapped my Chocolove Dark Chocolate Bar this morning, and can’t wait to dive into it! Especially after looking through their website, where I read:
Why is Chocolove better than conventional chocolate bars?
The cocoa beans used in Chocolove are premium beans, which means they are fully ripened and free of any bad beans. The fully ripened bean allows for proper chocolate flavor development upon roasting. The beans are roasted just enough to develop chocolate flavor.
Chocolove chocolate is ground finer and conched longer than most chocolates to provide a smooth texture and a smooth flavor. Chocolove bars have higher cocoa content which translates to less sugar than other chocolates.
Have you ever tried a Chocolove Dark Chocolate Bar? I would love to hear your thoughts! And if not, what’s your favorite low carb sweet treat? 🙂

I’ve never heard of Chocolove but I’ll start looking. It looks fabulous! My fav? After you told us about it, strawberries dipped in sweetened cream cheese. If I’m really craving something sweet and there are no strawberries in the house? Just put some cream cheese on a spoon and sprinkle on some Splenda – I LOVE cream cheese, anyway, anytime! LOL
Lynn Terry says
The strawberries are sweet enough for me, so I don’t use any additional sweetener. And I like the whipped cream cheese – it’s easier to dip and spread. π *cheers*

Hi Lynn, I just have one question, what was the “love message” inside the wrapper??? They sound yummy, but did you actually like the taste Lynn?
Lynn Terry says
It was a conversation between Romeo and Juliet. What a nice treat inside a treat!
I had a bite of it after lunch today and OH MY GOSH. I love it!! It’s rich, creamy, bold, and absolutely devine! π

Hi Lynn,
I will have to check it out. I have never been a big fan of dark chocolate either. I have heard that the dark chocolate is good as a small daily serving for your heart. I think I will have to do some healthy research. lol Thanks for this post! π
Lynn Terry says
Ditto -but this one I REALLY like! It’s very rich and bold. A super nice texture and flavor! It’s not bitter like most dark chocolate I have tried…
Tammy says
I will for sure check it out. TY π

Hey I totally forgot to add my favorite low carb treat..Sorry about that…;)
I like the Atkins low carb bars
Cathy says
Def going to look for the Chocolove since I love all varieties of chocolate!
I’ve just barely started low carb again. The only thing that gets me through is a bar or two per day. Since Atkins tells you the net carbs on their bars, that’s where I started, but they are so expensive in my grocery store. Does anyone know where to get them for less than $7 per box of 5? Or are there less pricey brands to consider?
Lynn Terry says
Hi Cathy,
Have you looked online? Try Netrition.com and Amazon.com π
Tammy says
They are expensive…the only place I have bought them is at Walmart lol π
Lynn Terry says
They are, but they are a cool special treat. π And so rich and bold – not at all bitter like most dark chocolate! And I can only eat a little nibble here and there. It’s going to take me ages to finish my bar! π

I buy these at Fiesta Nutrition here in Monroe, La. They are AWESOME!!!! Very good tast and low carb. The last one I tried was the Dark Chocolate with Currants and almonds. It had 7 grams of carb per 1/3 of the bar and I had 1/3 per day, so one bar lasted me three days! (Or three separate helpings, I didn’t eat the full thing w/in three days.) These are SO worth the money and trip to go purchase them.
Nance Kruh-Meyer says
Ok, can you explain to me how you figured out the net carbs? I had no idea that dark chocolate could be low carb!!!
Lynn Terry says
Sure Nance! See: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/230/how-to-figure-out-net-carbs/ π
