Yesterday I started my day off with two eggs scrambled with colby jack cheese. I had appointments lined up for the morning so I needed something quick and easy before I headed out.
I had intentions of grabbing take-out on the way home, knowing it was going to be a long day – but ended up just stopping at Wendy’s Fast Food drive-through on the way home instead.
My appointments ran way longer than expected, I was exhausted, and Wendy’s just happened to be on the way. I’m all for convenience. 😛 And fortunately there are plenty of low carb fast food options when you’re out and about and just want to grab something quick.
Here’s a PDF file with Wendy’s Menu Nutrition Facts:

I decided to grab a cup of Wendy’s Chili:
The Large Chili is 21 net carbs. The Small Chili is 15 net carbs. I like to add a spoonful of sour cream to mine. 🙂
While I was there, I decided to also grab one of their fresh salads to have on hand for later – as that really appealed to me more than cooking on a Friday night. Typical of me, right? LOL.
I chose the BLT Cobb Salad which has grilled chicken, Applewood Smoked Bacon mixed with real blue cheese crumbles, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes and avocado ranch dressing:
It didn’t really look that appetizing, as you can see in the picture, but once I added the blue cheese crumbles and avocado ranch dressing… it was surprisingly good! In fact, I ate the entire thing, and was a lot more impressed with it than I expected to be. I’ll definitely be having this one again!
The chicken was very tender and tasty, the greens were fresh, and the avocado ranch dressing was a real treat. Even after sitting in my refrigerator for hours before I actually ate it, the salad tasted fresh made!
Wendy’s BLT Cobb Salad is only 8 net carbs for the full size salad – there is also a half size option – and that includes the two Avocado Ranch Dressing packets that came with it.
Wendys Menu Nutrition Calculations
Wendy’s offers a page where you can personalize your meal, and check nutrition facts (specifically carb counts) for your customized meal & menu choices. I love these! 😀 You’ll find it online here:

Wendy’s Low Carb Fast Food Options
- Chili
- BLT Cobb Salad
- Garden or Caesar Side Salad (without croutons)
- Burgers or Grilled Chicken sandwiches (minus the bun)
For example, if you order the Dave’s Hot ‘N Juicy 1/2 lb. Double without ketchup and don’t eat the bun, it’s only 2 net carbs. And in addition to Diet Coke and Unsweet Tea (or Water, of course) they have Minute Maid Light Lemonade that is only ONE carb for a small cup.
This is one of the things I love about the low carb diet. I can still grab something on the go when I need to, as there are plenty of low carb fast food options. Just like Wendys Menu, you can find just about any restaurant or fast food chain online and easily look up the nutrition facts.
If you don’t have a smart phone so you can do this while you’re out, you can print off the nutrition fact charts for your favorite local spots and just keep them in the glove box. That way, there’s never an excuse to “cheat” even when you’re busy – or having to grab something on the go. 😉

One of my favorite fast food low-carb go to meals is Burger King. Double cheeseburger without the bun and a side salad. I like their side salad better than Wendy’s so I usually go there instead now.

I’ll have to try their salads next! It’s great to have plenty of low carb fast food options, that’s for sure. You get stuck out needing a quick meal sometimes. π

It really isn’t too hard to eat low-carb on the go if you’re disciplined enough to throw away the bun. LOL I do like my carbs though, so that in itself is often a challenge. I really liked your idea of carrying the low-carb tortillas with you though. I was telling my mom about that the other day. I need to figure out a better way to carry them with me though.
As for the salad, I don’t remember why I liked BK’s better, but I remember that I did. I think it had cheese and Wendy’s didn’t. I’m all about the cheese too.

Cheese is great! π I carry my low carb tortillas in a ziploc bag – easy! But I’m bad to make “finger food” out of just about anything. Including a big greasy thickburger from Hardees, lol.

Where do you get the low carb tortillas
Lynn Terry says
Hi Candace! There are several brands. The only low carb tortillas I like are Mama Lupe’s brand. I get mine online at: http://www.netrition.com/cgi/goto.cgi?pid=171-0011&aid=3558 I’m not sure if you can find those in stores, but you could try Wal-Mart, or google it first to see if they have a store locator.

I was so disappointed in Chick-fil-A today… the kids wanted to go there for lunch after a morning at a library musical event with the grandkids… and I ordered a Charbroiled Chicken sandwich Protein style to eat in-house as they had on their website. First off no one knew what the heck it was and then when I explained it was the chicken filet with 2 slices of tomato wrapped in leaf lettuce I was handed a bag that had a chicken filet stuck into one pouch and a container with the lettuce and tomato in it. Make it yourself I guess. Didn’t make me want to go there and order it again. Oh well… they could have at least given me lettuce large enough to use as the bun substitute! They were after all saving the cost of the bun! DRAT! I hate when stuff like that happens! Next time I’ll just order the salad I guess, but I get tired of salad all the time.
Lynn Terry says
Plenty of lettuce is definitely helpful when you’re trying to handle a sans-bun sandwich! I get tired of salads too after awhile, so I know what you mean. We don’t have a Chick-fil-A here, so I haven’t tried anything there…

Try the Chick-fil-a grilled nuggets next time & get 1 each ranch & 1 buffalo sauce, then pour half of each sauce on top of the nuggets into their container. Itβs like having βbuffalo chicken w ranchβ on the go! Plus itβs a large enough amount that you will fill full and it taste pretty good topped of with the sauce!
I find the using both full sauces are too much.
Each sauce packet is 1 carb,
So when you only use half of each = 1 carb and the grilled chicken you can have 2 carbs for 8 nuggets! Total meal on the road for 3 carbs!!!
