Year-End Challenge To-Do List
1. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning. This is the only true weigh, as your weight fluctuates 5 pounds or more throughout a single day. Post/Log your starting weight today.
2. Set up MyFitnessPal and record your weight there, and also log all of your meals.
This is how I have MyFitnessPal Set Up To Track Net Carbs.
That only works online, not on mobile/tablet.
3. Take body measurements as well, and record those in MyFitnessPal too.
Sometimes you’ll lose more inches than pounds, and it’s another great way to track your progress!
4. I highly recommend you take a “before photo” today. You’ll regret not having pictures to compare! Sometimes the scales may not show much loss, but comparison photos tell a different story. 🙂
5. Read The 8 links above. Educate yourself on how the Low Carb Diet (and this challenge) works!
Do These Steps:

Plus the Getting Started links I shared above. This will eliminate A LOT of repeat questions! 🙂 The Group Rules are posted there as well.

Annmarie says
Hi Lynn, I have been on the diet since May though not on your group.I started @ 90 kg and my desires weight was 75kg. I got there but been fluctuating between 73 and 71kg.I don’t want to loose more but to maintain it.My tummy still isn’t flat though but my skin glows and radiates ,I look and feel so light and sleep well too unlike when I weighed more.I need to get rid of the belly fat and maintain my weight…
Lynn Terry says
Hi Annmarie π
The best thing to do is toning and strength training, with light weights or your body weight. Adding muscle is lean weight, so that will help you maintain your overall weight while you lose the rest of your body fat.
Julie says
172.5. Would love to eventually get to 140.
Lynn Terry says
Great goal, Julie! I have been both of those weights… and reaching 140 felt FABULOUS. You are going to love achieving that goal!! π
Amy says
Starting BACK at 161 today… I woke up feeling powerful, which is what I needed and hoped for. Just turned 30 yesterday and I decided once and for all…this is my time. I have some habits that need to be kicked immediately. I need to keep believing in myself, or get myself out of the depression slump faster and stronger than this last round. More exercise, less naughty habits. More smiles…less sulking. More love. More kindness. Less weight. I can’t wait to see…if this really is my time to shine. Thank you Lynn, for helping keep me going π
Lynn Terry says
I hope you had a very happy & fun 30th birthday, Amy. π I’m thrilled to hear you got your motivation back!! I love your goals. I am finding more of those things go hand in hand than I realized, and am working on the same things.
I even went back to my daily gratitude journal. I’m also making it a point to do things that make me SMILE, and getting as much fresh air and sunshine as I can – while we’ve had such great weather.
It really IS your time to shine. I have discovered it’s not something we wait for, but something we create. And you’ve got what it takes to make that happen! π
Twyla U. Williams says
Starting weight for this challenge 186.5
Lynn Terry says
Welcome, Twyla π I’m glad you joined us!
Tammy Harless says
I am just over my goal which is 125. I weighed in this morning at 136.2. I have had some life happen in the last month. I lost my father and my sisters and assumed care of our 85 year old dementia mother. I have lost all focus and been doing alot of stress eating which I thought I had under control. I weighed 133 when he died so I know if I get it under control now I will be fine. Just really need to get that focus back and hoping this will help me. Thanks so much for your posts. They really inspire me to try harder because I know it can be done. I started at 192 about 6 years ago and have worked hard to get where I am. Thanks for this challenge. I plan to embrace it.
Lynn Terry says
I’m so sorry for your losses and struggles, Tammy. I know just how overwhelming grief can be. I’ve been there. When Molly died last year, that changed. I realized nothing I ate would bring her back – or change anything – and that’s when I stopped turning to food. Or when I realized it had never helped, at all.
I’m glad you’re joining us. It’s one thing in your life you CAN control, which is a good grounding point while other things settle. *hugs*
adele says
Determined to change my lifestyle. 178 this morning. Reading everyone’s posts and feeling determined to be the best I can be. Started this morning . Clinging to the wagon this time.
adele says
Joining 178 today. feeling determined. reading Lynn’s inspirational posts!
Lynn Terry says
You will find it’s much easier once you are 3-5 days in, and it won’t require any “clinging” on at all. π A low carb diet is a natural appetite suppressant, and kills your cravings, which helps A LOT.
Determined is a great starting point!! *cheers*
Marti says
I’m in for the challenge weighing in at 133 this morning which really has me thinking…I’ve lost 4 pounds in the last two weeks which is REALLY not normal for me at all. This is so strange because I have been increasing my carbs slowly to learn how I can maintain my weight….still LC foods just more. Is it possible the 20 carbs per day is to low for me and was actually slowing down my weight loss? I feel great and exercise everyday. The only thing different is that I’m eating a little more.
I know with Holidays coming up this will be THE challenge…to maintain. I can’t believe it has almost been a year since I started this woe. I didn’t set a goal weight but just knew I wanted to feel better and get healthy! Having said that, I have lost 41 lbs so far this year! Omg, I can’t believe it really. This woe works and becomes a habit you won’t ever want to break. I wish I had learned this year’s ago. So to everyone just starting, hang in there. It works!!
Lynn Terry says
Wow, congrats on losing 41 pounds already this year Marti!! π That’s AWESOME.
I think it may just be a case of mixing things up. Sometimes our bodies get used to our routines and numbers. I doubt eating super low carb slowed down your weight loss though. It could have just been a normal “hold” pattern in your weight loss trend – which happens to me all the time (now that we’re in the 130’s especially). I went through the same thing recently without changing my macros at all. π
Anyway, I love to hear your changing your entire lifestyle in so many healthy ways, and determined to maintain that!
Ronda says
I am just finding this challenge which began today. Is it too late to join since I did not weigh in this morning?
Lynn Terry says
It’s not too late at all Ronda, join right in! π
Melissa says
Joining & committing to the 60 Day Challenge for the first time. I’ve been following Lynn for a few months now & have gone back & read over most of her post since the first challenge began back in the spring. Hoping to make new changes & they all stick this time. I’ve played around with LC for almost 3 years now. I’ve lost, gained, lost, gained, lost… well you get the picture. Ready to say that forever good-bye & start new.
Lynn Terry says
Awesome, Melissa – I’m glad you joined in! π
I went through that as well, and finally got sick of starting/stopping, starting over, losing the same pounds over and over – and just got OFF that roller coaster. You’ll be SO glad you did. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. π
Sherry Smith says
Starting weight 216.4, goal 155.
Lynn Terry says
Welcome Sherry! π
Sherry Smith says
Well I started Gung hoo yesterday, took a nap in the afternoon and woke up and acted like a carb monster eating every high carb thing I could find. Should I try again, this seems to be my weakness, always starting and giving up. Just don’t know where to pull that will power from.
Lynn Terry says
Hi Sherry,
Yes – just get super committed and jump right back in! π Why do YOU think you start/stop – or give up? Why do you WANT to change your lifestyle and lose weight?
I think finding a strong WHY, a solid reason, really helps a lot.
Angela says
Just signed up!! I’m so excited! Thank you so much for going to all the work to share your insight and learning!
Lynn Terry says
Thank you Angela π I’m glad you joined us!
Misty says
Hello. I’m a day late but ready for this challenge. I don’t have fb tho. Any other way to stay connected? My weight on Tuesday was 166 lbs.
Lynn Terry says
Hi Misty π Right here is good! I assume you are getting these updates by email? If not, make sure you subscribe – then we can stay accountable and connected here throughout the challenge. π
Sherry Smith says
So unknowingly I started my day with 20 carbs of white chocolate raspberry coffee creamer, should I just try to keep my carbs as low as possible today or wait another day, I am feeling doomed and dumb
Amy says
I would try to just keep it under 30 for the day then! Don’t starve yourself, just try to keep them low π 30 is still really good, just go back to 20 tomorrow!
Sherry Smith says
Thanks, will give today another try
Lynn Terry says
It’s a learning process. Don’t be too hard on yourself, just start reading labels and tracking what you eat/drink so you’ll know as you go. π
I use sugar free hazelnut powdered creamer – Coffee Mate brand. It’s rich and creamy, delicious, and only 1 carb per TBSP.
Sherry Smith says
I did it, even after starting my day yesterday with 20 carbs of coffee creamer, I still stayed under 30 for the day, yippee. Today I used SF French Vanilla syrup and a shot of Atkins vanilla shake, yuck! Going to the store today to get heavy whipping cream. So day 2, I’m going to stick with it till the end of year to see what happens;)
Lynn Terry says
My coffee was the hardest transition for me at first too. π I hope you like the Coffee-Mate sugar free hazelnut powder. It’s lower in carbs than the liquid, and the best flavor they make!
Sherry Smith says
Ok so here is my coffee solution, 2 Tblsp. Land of Lakes heavy whipping cream, 1 Tblsp. SUGAR FREE FRENCH vanilla syrup=0 carbs and it is good
Lynn Terry says
Hi Sherry! I’m glad you found something you like. π Even though the heavy whipping cream SAYS zero carbs on the label, it is .4 carbs per TBSP (7 carbs per cup) so you want to count 1 carb per 2 TBSP for each cup of coffee.
They are allowed to say zero carbs on the label because it’s “less than one per serving.”
Lisa White says
I must be doing something wrong. I’ve been in the facebook group 90 day low carb challenge and posted in it the other day but now it’s gone? I can’t find it when searching or anything?
Lynn Terry says
Hi Lisa! Send me a message on my Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/lowcarbtraveler so I have your FB profile info – and I can fix that for you. π
Sherry Smith says
Wow, so how do I know that when shopping? I feel like what i’m eating is not really all that great. How do I learn these things? I’ve been trying to educate myself, but not sure ??
Lynn Terry says
Hi Sherry,
You’ll learn as you go. The “negligible carbs” aren’t a big concern in the beginning anyway. And you’re in a great community here to learn all the cool hacks. π Eggs are also .4 carbs each, so they should be counted as 1 carb for 2 eggs.
Why do you feel what you’re eating is not great? What kind of foods are you eating?
Sherry Smith says
Well I usually eat 2 eggs, cheese, and sausage for breakfast, snacks I’ve been eating turkey sausage bites, almonds, maybe a atkins shake , broccoli slaw, spinach, chicken, ham, Turkey, ranch dressing made with mayo, sour cream and hidden Valley Ranch dry mix, broccoli, cauliflower raw, cucumbers……does that sound right?
Lynn Terry says
That all sounds good to me. π Are you tracking? If not, you’ll want to do that. Here’s a simple explanation: http://www.travelinglowcarb.com/7006/macronutrients/
Sherry Smith says
I do track on the fitness pal on my phone, however I do not get the net carbs as you stated on the Web site, but I check my carbs , fiber and come up with my net carbs, correct? Then I monitor my fat and protein intake.
Lynn Terry says
Yes, that’s what’s important. I keep it simple: 20 net carbs max, 70% fat minimum. You can switch to the graph at the top right and see your ratios in a graphic there.
Sherry Smith says
Great, I got it:) thanks so much for all your help, I feel like I have worried you to death. I do have one more question , is butter a healthy fat? I never thought it was, is there somewhere the healthy fats are listed? Thank you again and can’t wait to weight in tomorrow
Lynn Terry says
Not at all – questions are good! π Real butter is a healthy fat, yes. It should be very few ingredients. I use Land o Lakes salted butter sticks. The very best on the market is Kerrygold butter, but any “real butter” is fine.
Other healthy fats include pecans, walnuts, salmon, avocado, coconut oil, natural peanut butter, real cheese, etc. Animal fats are not unhealthy either – a good juicy ribeye steak, for example. Try to eat meat & greens + healthy fats, and as much real/whole food as possible – for the best results.
Sherry Smith says
Whoo hoo I am down 7.4 lbs in 5 days must be doing something right:)
Lynn Terry says
That’s awesome Sherry! π Way to go!!
Grace Hayward says
I am from UK and do not know of any outlets for low carb products hear in UK. If anyone knows of any I would be grateful. Thank you
Lynn Terry says
Hi Grace π I don’t have any local stores for these things either. Except my store DID recently start carrying almond meal! Does yours? Otherwise I order online. Can you order from Amazon there??
Veronica Myles says
Hey ladies..it’s late but I’m joining. .
Lynn Terry says
Welcome, Veronica! π
Evelyn Smith says
Hi Lynn,
I am glad to see you back online again. I thought you quit posting so I think I am double suscribed. I got off track over the holidays and gained two lbs. Time to get back ON track and losing again. I enjoy your emails and recipes.
Hope you had a Very Merry Christmas and will have a Healthy and Happy New Year all year.
Lynn Terry says
Hi Evelyn π Did you get two copies of the last few updates? If so, let me know and I’ll take care of that for you.
Happy New Year to you as well! π *cheers*
